I read something about the fact that Christopher Lee should play the role of the Indian "Winnetou" in the german "Sauerkraut" westerns from the 60s (e. g. "Der Schatz im Silbersee" directed by Harlad Reinl).
After a test shooting, the producers decided not to give Lee the role, but to give it to the french actor Pierre Brice. Does anyone knows wether their exist some photos or some rushes from this test shooting and how I could find them? Thanks a lot for your answers,
Oliver

Re: Christopher Lee as "Winnetou"?

Hello everyone,

Indeed Oliver, there are photographs of Mr Lee in character for the role of "Winnetou". In fact, one of them is here on CLW in the multimedia gallery section. If you click the following link you should be able to view the image: http://christopherleeweb.com/multimedia/showphoto.php?photo=774&cat=515. Also, if you own a copy of Christopher Lee: The Authorised Screen History, by Jonathan Rigby, there is a small photograph of Mr Lee as "Winnetou" on page 238 of the softcover edition (upper right-hand corner). I don't know whether the hardback edition has the same photograph though. Anyway, there you go. I hope this helps. Take care:

Warmest regards,

Andrés

P.S.: Welcome to CLW, Oliver!

Hi Oliver welcome to CLW.
There's a screen test photograph in "The Authorised Screen History" by Jonathan Rigby back in the appendix section of the book. That's all I've ever seen. There could be rushes but probably not for public.

Indeed, Oliver! You're quite correct! I was meaning to add that here, but it completely slipped my memory. My apologies for that. In fact, the photograph in the hardcover version is actually bigger than in the softcover edition, which I assume would probably be better for your purposes. I hope you checked out the one in the multimedia gallery too! It's a really great shot! Take care:

Warmest regards,

Andrés

This always intrigued me, therefore I didn't find anything on this film!

Yes Isabel, it is interesting when you find pictures and there is no movie about them...Winnetou was made (actually quite a few of them), just not with Mr. Lee......I think he would have made a fine 'Winnetou'.....

Cheers,Wink
Helen
