I was just over at amazon.com looking around, and saw this VHS titled An Afternoon With Christopher Lee. It's out of stock now, but they are taking orders for future sales. I couldn't tell by the listing what this was, but I gather it was filmed at some fan event in the last few years. Does anybody here have this? If so, what is it about? I've never heard about it before and was just wondering. Anything anybody can tell me would be great! Thanks! Smile

littleb, At Amazon, select the Product information, customer reviews, there is a writeup someone did on this videotape. I have included bits and pieces of the review.

Quote from Amazon.com customer review:
"AN AFTERNOON WITH CHRISTOPHER LEE is a videotape that was recorded in 1999 at a convention for people interested in the horror-thriller genre."...
"Such things as his early career, family history, and involvement with the Hammer studio were discussed. In addition to these things, there is a rare treat in which Lee gives a sample of the wonderful singing voice that has been found on various recordings in recent years."

Cheers, Smile

Re: An Afternoon With Christopher Lee

While the video and sound quality is dodgy at best, this is about as close as you'll get to hearing/seeing Mr. Lee live in a convention setting (particularly a horror convention as IIRC he's indicated he'll do no more) without actually seeing/hearing Mr. Lee live in a convention setting. It was recorded, if memory serves, at Monster Rally in Crystal City, VA back in 1999. It is interesting on another level, as it was recorded at a time just before Mr. Lee was thrown back into the limelight with LOTR and Star Wars, possibly a few months before Sleepy Hollow was released (again, if memory serves) so it provides a somewhat different perspective than you'll find today. Sure, most of the anecdotes will be familiar from various articles, DVD commentaries & featurettes, his autobiog, etc...but it's still a fairly cool piece of CL video, and history!

Surprised to see this listed at Amazon, as it was originally only available from Midnight Marquee (again, that is if my memory isn't playing me false).

Thanks, Charles, for that info. I really want it now, as I had planned on attending that Monster Rally in 1999 and had to cancel at the last moment due to a family bereavement. Hopefully I can get this and see what I missed! Smile

Go for it! I had planned to go to the Convention as well, but couldn't manage to find a reasonably priced flight by the time I decided to go (we opted for a holiday in Los Angeles instead...oh dear, don't get me started on LA) so picked up the video when it was released...as a sort of poor-man's-consolation-next-best-thing deal. Still regret missing the Con, but what can you do? Live and learn.
