Smile movie based on Mr.Lee's life

If Mr.Lee gave his blessing on Hollywood making a movie about his life based on his autobiography, who would you want to play him and why? Is there anyone who could play Mr.Lee and do him justice?

Theresa
Interesting question,
it reminded me of a topic similar waaaaaay back, and came up with interesting ideas.
Here's the link from the old one
Mr.Lee`s life. - who could play CL

It will be interesting to see what all the newer members come up with.

Cheers
Colin

My vote would be for Daniel Day-Lewis.

I have always liked Liam Neeson and thought he would be a very good choice to play my father (similar looks, same height and deep voice). I thought his make-up was very realistic in the TV-film "A Woman of Substance".

Hello everyone,

Haha, Christina! So my mother and I weren't the only ones who noticed that Liam Neeson bore a strong resemblance to Mr Lee in "A Woman of Substance" when Mr Neeson was made-up to play his character in older years. For those of you who haven't seen this Barbara Taylor Bradford adaptation, here is a screen capture shot of Liam Neeson:

Incidentally, the miniseries also features the late Barry Morse who plays a rather nasty servant character called Murgatroyd. I thought I would include a screen capture of him here:

Steering things back to the subject in hand, it's difficult to think of an actor who could do full justice to Mr Lee in a film based on his life. I'll give it some thought and see if anyone strikes me. Anyway, take care everyone:

Warmest regards,

Andrés

You are right Christina, Liam COULD play your father! I hope at some point down the road your father would give his blessing to having a movie based on his life made. There are so many sides to your father. His account of his service in WWII was fascinating. My father talks once in a while about his time in the Korean War and I have so many videos about the wars and what airplanes were used. Thanks for responding to my question.

Hello Christina,
Hope I am not being too forward, I always feel a little awkward using first names, when I am a complete stranger.
Being fairly new on this site, this is also only the second time I have been able to read one of your posts.
Yes, I agree, Liam Neeson would be a very good choice, he is a fine actor.
As for Peter Cushing, What would you think of Christopher Eccleston. I believe he played the younger character of Peter Cushings in the most recent Star Wars film, right at the very end.
All the best.

Re: movie based on Mr.Lee's life

Well, I grieve in this in three times:
For a Mr. much younger Lee- Little Nicky -high, he has something in the eyes that he reminds Mr. Lee, as well as in the lips and expressions when speaking. Excuse me I didn't find a better picture, that it makes more justice to my comment.
Resultados da Pesquisa de imagens do Google para http://i.imdb.com/Photos/Ss/0185431/8

For a Mr.Lee in the strip of the 40- Nicholas Cage (the City of the Angels). The hair and the mysterious air reminded me always Mr.Lee.

(Less similar and even with very different physicist, me also vote in Johnny Depp)

For the Mr. lee in the days today> You are certain Christina, this actor, Liam Neeson is perfect.

Hello again,

Steve, it was Wayne Pygram who played "Governor Tarkin" (Peter Cushing's character) in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, not Christopher Eccleston, although I see how the two could easily be confused, as they do have a similar kind of face. Besides which, Tarkin's appearance in ROTS is of the "blink and you miss it" variety. In any case, Christopher Eccleston would be an interesting choice to play Peter Cushing (both actors share the distinction of having played "Doctor Who", which is a nice link). One actor I think would be able to play Peter Cushing is Christian Bale, as their physiques are somewhat similar. Who would play Vincent Price, I wonder...? This thread is raising a lot of curious questions. Take care everyone:

Warmest regards,

Andrés

Well for Vincent Price I thought about this actor (Geoffrey Rush)

Also Barbossa in Pirates from Caribbean.

I am owing a name of another actor to represent Peter Cushing. I need to agree with people mentioned above.

Thanks for clearing that up Andres,
I can't remember where I got the, obviously incorrect information about Christopher Eccleston and Star Wars connection. And I have the film aswell. Some unreliable source in the pub one nght probably.
As for Christian Bale, your right he would be a good choice for the role. I consider him to be a very underated actor.
Another actor has just come to mind as a possible Peter Cushing.
Their is a very good English actor at the moment who is thought very well of, Michael Sheen. He played Kenneth Williams in a BBC production I believe and is probably better known for his role as the British primeminister, Tony Blair in the film, "The Queen" starring Helen Mirren.
He is an exceptional actor and seems to have the ability to transform himself, both physically and mentally into a role.
I agree with Isabel aswell, Geoffrey Rush would be ideal as Vincent Price.

Not to mention that he is a really great actor...I am convinced that if Mr. Lee had a saying, he would approve.

Hello again,

I certainly agree, Liam Neeson is a brilliant actor, one of my favourites (and one of my father's favourites too). Touching on Steve and Isa's comments about Michael Sheen and Geoffrey Rush, for Peter Cushing and Vincent Price, respectively, I can definitely see both of them in the roles. Another thought which just occurred to me: how about John Hurt for Peter Cushing in older years? Anyway, take care:

Warmest regards,

Andrés
