Honestly, I don`t know but a very interesting question...is there anyone you can compare to Mr Lee??? Not easy....

Nicolas Cage, playing the younger Mr Lee, would be nice. I do agree with Isabel...but that is all I can think of at moment.

I am happy I don`t have to make a decision about that!

Re: movie based on Mr.Lee's life

Either Liam Neeson, Nicolas Cage (Lee and Cage look quite similiar) or Johnny Depp for Mr. Lee. As for Peter Cushing, I'd say Christopher Eccleston for sure, and Michael York for Mr. Price. Mr. York just needs to grow the beard I think. But that's all I can think of. I'll get back on this when I've had more time to decide who would fit what part best.

I recorded a detective drama last week and have just finished watching it. The first one of a serial. It is called "Lewis". This is a british production based on the character that was introduced to us via "Morse".
Have a look at it, if you can. The actor (Lawrence Fox) who plays Hathaway, Lewis's side kick, I think bears a strong resemblence to a young Mr Lee. Not only in looks, but physically and vocally. I only really know him from this production, so I am not that sure of his acting range. But he certainly seems competent enough in this part. Some people might know him through his recent marriage to Billie Piper.
Just a thought.
Bye for now.

...uh... I hate to rain on the fantasy casting, but you'd need Depp, Cage, and Liam Neeson all to play Mr. Lee through his career! (And the bad news would be, they'd all need lifts and steriods to even vaguely resemble him!) Although, I noticed Nick Cage in "Ghost Rider" that he has those long, double-jointed, spider-leg fingers like Mr. Lee (see any shot of Saruman and Palantir to see what I mean).

Never mind a movie based on Mr. Lee's life--he's not dead yet! What kind of script could get Nick Cage and Christopher Lee in the same movie? (and no, do not say yet another remake of "Wicker Man"!) Weird would be cool, and something funny. I adore Mr. Lee's work, but there are many fans who want to see him in just horror-genre roles, and I think there's vast potential for him to do something completely different... hmm, something with music, maybe? Yeah, Mr. Lee as an opera singer... give me a few minutes with this... how about a romantic comedy with music, and Mr. Lee as the romantic leading man?

...Count Dooku wasn't a charismatic separatist just because George said so!

You all have good choices as to who could play Mr.Lee at various ages and for those who he worked with throughout his career. Movies are made all the time based on someone's autobiography whether or not they are still alive. For instance,Johnny Cash was very much involved in the WALK THE LINE movie and continued to do so until his death. This is why I brought up the subject of a movie based on Mr.Lee's life while he is still alive and could give his insight to the movie's cast and crew.

Well, that is rather the point of this thread, and I don't think the subject necessarily has to be dead in order to make a biopic. In fact, it's done all the time: Sophia Loren, for one, who played both herself and her own mother in the film of her life story.

Then people ought to take a look at Mr Lee's career in the past thirty or more years: Julius Caesar, The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, Hannie Caulder, The Three Musketeers, The Four Musketeers, The Man with the Golden Gun, Airport '77, Bear Island, 1941, Serial, The Return of Captain Invincible, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Death Train, A Feast at Midnight, Police Academy: Mission to Moscow, Moses, "Ivanhoe", Jinnah, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Pope John Paul II... to name but a mere few. Vast potential to do something completely different? One would have to be extremely inattentive not to notice such breadth and sheer diversity in an actor's artistic achievements. And that's barely scratching the surface. I suspect that those who want to see Mr Lee only in "horror" films are probably people who watch very little else. I do like the idea of a musical romantic comedy, though. Anyway, take care everyone:

Warmest regards,

Andrés

Re: movie based on Mr.Lee's life

This is a fascinating thread and there have been many great choices to play the part of Mr Lee - Liam Neeson and Nicholas Cage especially. I also like Steve's idea of Michael Sheen playing Peter Cushing (there is a definite likeness there) and Isabel's choice for Vincent Price - Geoffrey Rush.

My casting choice for Mr Lee would be British actor Nathaniel Parker, best known for playing the lead role in The Inspector Lynley Mysteries on television. I'm not sure he is as tall as Mr Lee but there is a likeness there and he brings a similar elegance to his roles.

For those not familiar with him, here he is

Nathaniel Parker

I also have an idea for Peter Cushing - how about current Doctor Who David Tennant? There is a physical resemblance there and also he would be able to bring that slight air of eccentricity that Mr Cushing sometimes displayed in his roles.

Dear Covadonga, I think agree with you about actor Michael Wincott! Maybe is the "face" to interpret Mr Lee´s life! You do it well, my dear!

All the best,

Christian

Hi!

A couple of years ago I've seen a horror movie called "House on Haunted Hill", a spiced-up re-make of an old black-and-white movie with Vincent Price. In the new movie Geoffrey Rush was playing a character named "Stephen Price" and had worn the appropriate moustache. I really had to look twice to make sure it wasn't Vincent Price!

Ciao,
Andreas.

Re: movie based on Mr.Lee's life

This is a great idea. Firstly there are very few actors who have the "presence" that Mr. Lee commands. only Ian Mackellan, among his LOTR costars rivalled the power of Mr. Lee. As an aside, both were perfect cast for thier roles but anyway. Who would play John carridine (since we must use all the great masters who appeared in that flop of a film) As for whom would play Mr. Lee, I really can't think of any. Maybe Depp.. but he'd have to be wearing LOTs of Makeup..

Re: movie based on Mr.Lee's life

how about making it now...christopher lee could play the majority of it now.
he doesnt look his age and also with a little bit of make up he could still be convincing as a very much younger man.
i would still like to see the film Dracula done sticking to the script with christopher lee playing the lead. he could easily still play the part.
why has'nt anyone just done it...what a crime.
