Christopher Lee is an unknown quantity at this point

Your role in gormenghast came across as very "King Lear"...did you base it at all on him?
Dear Vixis,

No, I did not base Flay in "Gormenghast" on King Lear. Flay had no children, although loyally devoted to the Groan family. He was not a King, although he was the essence and virtual embodiment of Gormenghast. He did not go mad, although sent into exile. I am sure there are elements shared by both characters, but my main concern was to be faithful to Mervyn Peake.

Warm regards,

Christopher Lee
