Hello one and all!
Rich Carlson here. A long time admirer of Mr. Lee's wonderful, passionate and very entertaining work. I live in Kirkland, Washington.
What "turned me on" to Christopher Lee?
It may have been certain Hammer films... When I was a kid they scared the dickens out of me!...
And The Wicker Man, cripes! A film that, whenever it's on television, you have to sit whoever is around down to watch it.
Perhaps a couple of LP's I enjoyed, I think they were called "Tales of Horror", just my favorite readings of all time of Poe stories, that's all...
Lee's reading of The Exorcist...wow... And so on, through his potent powerful performance as Saruman, and beyond... All of it.
I grew up with Christopher Lee's films and I'm sure glad I did. And I'm glad he's done so many different projects so we could be, and can continue to be, surprised and delighted to see and hear him again and again down through the years.
Anyhow, nice to be here and I look forward to some fascinating, or just plain fun, conversation!

Hello everyone,
A very warm welcome to CLW, Rich! I hope you will enjoy your time here, and I look forward to reading more of your posts in the future. I particularly enjoy Mr Lee's "voice work" (or audio recordings) and it's great to see them mentioned in your post. As an enthusiast of Poe's work, I too would single out those recordings, and The Exorcist is also a good one. There is a section in Mr Lee's autobiography, Lord of Misrule, where he discusses recording the latter work, and how the description of the Black Mass was so "vile" it left him feeling sick. I guess this is some indication of the authencity Blatty strove for in his book. Anyway, take care and all the best:
Warmest regards,
Andrés
