Film Characters You Wish Mr Lee Had Played
I was watching a movie last night, which is one of my all time favourite movies to watch. It is called: Night Of The Demon,In America,it is called: Curse Of The Demon ( which is the cut version ).
I know the story is about an American Doctor, who is a skeptic about Devils and Demons,so involves an American Actor and a very much American language script involving the American actor: Dana Andrews.
I cannot help but wish, every time i watch the movie, that the character of Dr John Holden ( Dana Andrews ),was played by Mr Lee,and with an English Language Script.I think it would have been the perfect role for Mr Lee,in the same vein as The Magnificently Portrayed Duc De Richleau,in the film: The Devil Rides Out.
As a little side line,if the film: Night Of The Demon was re made now,i think Mr Lee would make a magnificent Dr Julian Karswell ( the devil worshipper in the movie ).
Does anybody else know of a film character, that they dearly wished Mr Lee had played, and the script altered for Mr Lee?

Re: Film Characters You Wish Mr Lee Had Played
I have always thought Mr Lee would have made a marvellous Captain Hook. Unfortunately, by the time Steven Spielberg made Hook, Mr Lee was probably a bit too old for the part.
Still, in his younger days, it would have been a part tailor-made for him.

Re: Film Characters You Wish Mr Lee Had Played
I was just replying in another thread about Disney movies, and i mention a film that i would love to have seen Mr Lee play the title role in.The film is called: The Scarecrow Of Romney Marsh, and i would have loved it if Mr Lee had been asked to play the role of The Scarecrow, although Patrick McGoohan does do an excellent job as The Scarecrow.Mr Lee's voice,to my mind, would have been better when The Scarecrow was bellowing orders and threats. There is a scene when The Scarecrow *Pretends* to hang a fellow smuggler for being a betrayer of the smuggling gang,in order to enforce his authority and create more fear of him amongst the gang,in an old wooden barn. The Scarecrow Laughs loud and manically,in this scene,as well as other scenes. It is that loud manic laugh that needs The Mr Christopher Lee Touch to my mind.Mr Lee would have added such intenseness and depth to the manic laugh.Mr Lee's height would have added so much more terror, intimidation and mystery to the character of The Scarecrow aswell.

Re: Film Characters You Wish Mr Lee Had Played
I think Christopher Lee would've made a creat Captain of the ship in Titanic.... But the actor who did the role was also VERY CONVINCING! Lee would've been great in Titanic.... Cheerio...

Re: Film Characters You Wish Mr Lee Had Played
Everyone has such great thoughts they are sharing on this subject; interesting choices!!!!!!!
Hmmmm.......This is a tough one for me........I am still holding out hope for 'Don Quixote'.....and though I really like James Mason's performance in Jules Verne's 20,000 leagues under the sea; I always thought Mr. Lee would make a great Captain Nemo..........I guess another one would be based on Mr. Lee's vocal abilities (Stravinsky's A Soldier's Tale); I would love to hear him perform all of the parts to an animated version of JRR Tolkien's Roverandom (Mr. Lee would be brilliant performing all three of the wizards parts!).........And even though the last isn't a 'film' part........I would love to hear/see Mr. Lee perform in an Opera........
Cheers,
Helen

Re: Film Characters You Wish Mr Lee Had Played
I just got done doing "Jesus Christ Superstar", a rock opera about the final days of Christ, and there is a lovely Bass part and a very ominous part too: Caiaphas the Elder.
They recently did a made for TV version of the film and I can just hear Mr. Lee's lovely basso voice performing the role. Plus, Mr. Lee is the right age range for an elder/high priest.
I also like the Captain Hook idea :) (not to overlook the ideas of others)

Agreed!
I think he would've been great as a villain of some kind in the original Star Wars films. (Perhaps the unmasked Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi)

Re: Film Characters You Wish Mr Lee Had Played
I have mentioned it before but I would have LOVED it if Mr Lee had played the part of English Bob in Clint Eastwoods Unforgiven.
Don't get me wrong , I thought Richard Harris was brilliant but it would have been great to see my two favourite actors on screen together and in such a tterrific movie.

Absolutely Matt - that really would have been something! I still harbour hopes of these two screen legends appearing in the same film but as time passes the chances of that happening grow less and less.

Oh yeah! Fantastic. Mr. Lee would be great in a western like Unforgiven or the recent Appaloosa.

Re: Film Characters You Wish Mr Lee Had Played
I would've really liked to see him play the role of Dr. Loomis on the original Halloween.

Agreed. It was offered to him and he refused. I don't know if he regrets that decision but I know I do. Having said that, you've got to love Pleasance.

Re: Film Characters You Wish Mr Lee Had Played
I love to see Christopher read the black book of horror stories on the paranormal channel.
I can picture him sitting by the fireside with the book right now.

Re: Film Characters You Wish Mr Lee Had Played
Two things: 1.) Richard Harris was GREAT as English Bob in "Unforgiven." 2.) The part of 'Loomis' in 1978 was agreed by Don Pleasence for only 20 G's.. The budget for the '78 "Halloween" film was not very high... STILL! The film is a cult classic, and a personal favorite of mine.....
MR.BILL
EXTRA: I'm not sure what Cushing or Lee didn't like about the film... Was it the lousy 20 G's??
