Friendship Showing Through

I noticed something in the movie: Nothing But The Night, that triggered a real love for me when watching Mr Christopher Lee and his close friend, the great late Mr Peter Cushing acting together. It was as follows:

In the scene where Mr Lee is trying to persuade Mr Cushing to do him a favour in Mr Lee's Office.Mr Cushing gets angry, and shouts about how much pressure everyone is putting on him.As they reach the door of the office,i noticed how relieved Mr Cushing Was,as Mr Lee opened the door for him. They both exited the door, smiling with Mr Lee placing his hand on Mr Cushings shoulder.
Personally,i cannot help thinking that Mr Cushing may have found it really difficult to shout angrily at his close friend Mr Lee,and the friendly gesture of comfort Mr Lee gave Mr Cushing,By placing his hand on his shoulder as he was leaving, was a genuine thing, and not part of the scene or act.Mr Cushing and Mr Lee,to my mind, seemed seriously relieved that that particular scene was over, and that Mr Cushing had successfully completed it.I see their true friendship shining through in that scene, and i absolutely adore watching it.

Does anybody else see the scene in the same way i do,and their true friendship shining through in,what i perceive as,an awkward scenario for Mr Cushing?

Also, has anybody else spotted, what they believe,is their true friendship shining through in a scene in a movie?

Re: Friendship Showing Through

I have that movie on dvd, Paul. I'll have to check it out. I remember the scene but Mr. Cushing was such an experienced actor, I doubt that was the case. Maybe they had been laughing about something just before that shot. But I too love seeing their work. He was such a delightful man and I know Mr. Lee misses him terribly.
I will check that scene and get back with you on it..hugs!

Paul, I have seen the film 3 times in the last week (it has been shown repeatedly on cable here!) and know the scene you are describing. I don't know that Mr. Cushing had a difficult time 'yelling' at Mr. Lee; but I do believe the camaraderie that these two great men shared does 'show' through in this film and some of their other joint ventures in cinema.
It is an interesting observation and thought though.
Thanks for bringing it to mind!

Cheers,
Helen

Re: Friendship Showing Through

I recently bought a copy of the Hound of Baskervilles DVD with a featurette with Christopher Lee. At the end of the interview, he talks about his friendship with Peter Cushing.
At the very end, in the last copy of sentences, you can hear the slight change in his voice as he is moved emotional.
I can't help to be teary eyed as the interview stops in silence.

Thank you Kelly Thank you Helen.I do acknowledge both your conclusions on the matter in question as more realistic than my theory.Mr Cushing really was too much of an experienced actor to be swayed by a single scene involving a negative emotion.I absolutely adore watching that scene,as it shows so much of the joy they both had being together.
Thank you for letting me know about the Hound Of The Baskervilles DVD,with the Christopher Lee interview Jolie.I have had a Hound Of The Baskervilles DVD myself for a long time now,but it only includes the original theatrical trailer and interactive menu screens and chapter selections.I will look for the one with the interview on it,and buy it.

Re: Friendship Showing Through

I haven't seen this film for many years, and can remember very little if anything about it. I'm sure that when I purchase it, which will be almost immediately, now that you have all rekindled my interest in it, the plot and scenes will gradually be recalled.
Sometimes works that way with me and films. As I watch them back, I'll sit their wondering weather I've seen this or not, and as certain scenes begin I'll cry.... "Oh yes.... I remember what happens here .... It's good this bit" and so on. Can be irritating sometimes.
That scene you speak of Paul, sounds very interesting, I shall pay great attention.
All the best.
