I think this movie rules , it is equal to Dracula.....heck it's better than some of the Draculas ! :D
imbd says it premiered in UK.......hmmm , wasn't the Spain premiere the world premiere...does anyone know the exact date ?
Read they started shooting it Dec 6th , 1971 ?

Re: Horror Express
It's a great film and is certainly better than some of the Dracula sequels but it doesn't come close to the original.
I've no idea about the premiere but I remember its first appearance on British t.v. It was New Years Eve 1979. I watched it with my mate at his house whilst everyone else had left for a party. It may sound sad but this was before video and I wasn't going to miss it.

Re: Horror Express
Horror Express is an excellent movie. It is one of the only movies to give me the creeps, every single time i watch it.The way the camera moves and changes angles, as the victim falls with blood filled eyes,is absolutely unique to this movie. The scenes in the train carriage, when the dead rise, never ceases to fill me with an indepth dread at it's creepiness. To my mind,Horror Express is one of the greatest and most unique movies in film history, never to be equaled.I videoed Horror Express off the television a few years ago,and for a few years,i was convinced the special effects of the train's demise was real.Excellent movie for lighting and special effects, aswell as having the perfect cast of actors, which included the remarkably beautiful Natalie Delon, the wife of Alain Delon and star of When Eight Bells Toll with Anthony Hopkins.
Mr Lee was astounding as Sir Alexander Saxton ( hopefully one day,the titles will be reversed, and we will all be joyously referring to Mr Lee as Sir Christopher Lee ).

Re: Horror Express
I agree; excellent film! I can't compare it with the (Mr. Lee's) 'Dracula' series of films (haven't seen them); but it is a film that is definitely well played out by the actors and the film crew.....
Cheers,
Helen

Re: Horror Express
One of my favourite films, and, when I watched it first many years ago, the first time I ever watched Mr Lee on screen.
Horror Express has a superb atmosphere throughout and an interesting story. Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing are as good as ever too.

Re: Horror Express
I just mentioned this film on Stuart's "Frankenstein" thread... I have a DVD copy of "Horror Express." I like it.... Telly Savalas has a minor role in the film.... It was good for a low-budget film from '73 / '74..... I know NOBODY who's ever seen this film other than myself......... I'm sure it died at the box-office here in the States upon its release....... Cheers...

I read in a biography that Peter Cushing was mourning the death of his wife and was not originally gonna do the film with Chris Lee... BUT! Lee consoled Cushing and talked him into going ahead with the film.... Good thing... Peter Cushing is always a treat to have in a Hammer film..... I heard the movie was filmed in Spain and several other locations not too far away from there... I believe "Horror Express" did not get released here in the USA until early 1974... Cheers...

Re: Horror Express
With certainty... Horror Express is a lot, very good. One of Mr. Lee's best works.

Re: Horror Express
YES! I love it, as well.... I just wish that MORE folks in the USA were aware of this film......... I just reviewed "Terror Train" with Jamie Lee Curtis from 1980....... Train flicks can be scary / freaky....... Cheerio....

Re: Horror Express
I'm still curious as to how Telly Savalas wound up in Horror Express. Back in the early 70's, Savalas had began doing his successful TV series Kojack in New York... My guess is that Telly Savalas was on some form of vacation when he was approached about doing the minor role in Horror Express.?.? It must've only been a two or three day shoot at the most for his scenes.... Still, good stuff..... Peace...
