Icons Of Horror DVD Set

If you haven't already bought this set I can highly recommend doing so.

The Gorgon
The Curse Of The Mummys Tomb
Scream Of Fear
The Two Faces Of Dr Jekyll

Not only are they all rare Hammer movies to dvd the are presented in the best condition I have ever seen of a Hammer transfer.

I had almost forgotten how good Christopher Lee is in Jekyll. He steals every scene he's in and it's still a mystery to me why he wasn't the lead.
Paul Massie just wasn't up to the challenge.

Amazon.com: Icons of Horror: Hammer Films (2-disc) (The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb / The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll / Scream of Fear / The Gorgon): Paul Massie - The Two Faces Of Dr. Jekyl, Terence Morgan - The Curse Of The Mummy', Peter Cushing - The Go

Hi Matt, I left a note on your profile a while ago, saying how much I was looking forward to watching this set, as it had just arrived. I agree with you about Mr Lee in "The Two Faces of Dr Jekyl". I thought he was very convincing in that role, and played it very well. I loved the way in which he played the drunk scene early on. Don't recall ever having seen him play a chap worse for drink before, and what an "absolute cad" to boot.
I really enjoyed watching Scream of Fear as well, and I think it has some genuinely chilling scenes in it.... very atmospheric, very well directed. Watching "The Gorgon" soon.
Bye for now.

This is great Matt, I've already got a copy of The Gorgon, but I've wanted to get the others. I've only seen Scream of Fear twice, and reading steve's post about Jekyl really makes me want to have that one too.

Mr Lee steals the film, but I have a soft spot for Massie as he is one of the few Jekyll's I find sympathic. The film itself is one of my favourites, romantic and oddly sad.

Re: Icons Of Horror DVD Set

I like the tale of "Jekyll and Hydy," but I can't seem to find a motion picture that was good..... The film with Spencer Tracy didn't slice the bread right for me... Their is also an older cut of that story from the early 1930's, and I thought it was a tad better than Tracy's '41 version..... Boris Karloff did a comedy version with Abbott & Costello in 1953, and that version is my favorite.... I never saw the Hammer film with Christopher Lee and Paul Massie.... Cheerio.....
