Rep Power: 29 | Charlton Heston passes on
Sadly Charlton Heston has passed on after fighting the latter stages of Alzheimer's disease.
He and Mr. Lee worked on several great films and television together, including; The Three Musketeers (1973), The Four Musketeers (1974), Treasure Island (1990), Julius Caeser (1970).
Charlton Heston was not only a fine actor but also a person who wasn't afraid to tackle polarizing issues such as Civil Rights and Gun Control.
He will be missed by so many.....
My Condolences go out to his family and friends.

Mr. Heston is one of my most favourite actors. I own many of his films on DVD as well as books, documentaries and movie memorablia.
One of Hollywoods greatest,
I will miss him.
In the statement of his family it says: No one could ask for a fuller life than his. No man could have given more to his family, to his profession, and to his country. In his own words, "I have lived such a wonderful life! I've lived enough for two people." |

A great actor and a true movie star. There's really no other actor out there like him.
I admired his on screen persona but didn't have any time for his politics , especially his right wing views on guns.
He was in three of my favourite SCI Fi films. Soylent Green, The Omega Man and, of course, Planet Of The Apes. He'll be sadly missed.

I agree Stuart. One of the Hollywood greats. A great acting talent on the big screen and stage. I admired his fine acting ability, but not so sure of his personnel views. But that being said, he certainly stood by them, and you have to admire him for that also.
In my opinion, he was one of those actors that, when on screen, made his presence felt and always performed to the highest standard. PLanet of The Apes is one of my favorite films, made all the better by his presence in the lead role.
A sad loss.

He has a rare presence on screen that very few actors have today. The Three Muskeeters and The Four Musketeers are wonderful movies and watching Mr Lee and Mr Heston together is just marvelous. I don't agree at all with his right wing views on gun control but that is another discussion to be kept else where. I'm sure Mr Lee has very fond memories working with Mr Heston. This is indeed a great loss.

We have lost three cinema greats already this year Paul Scofield, Richard Widmark and now Charlton Heston. Two of these were Mr Lee's co stars. One of my favourite Christopher Lee scenes are the ones he shared with Heston in The Three and Four Musketeers where he played De Rochefort opposite Heston's Richelieu. RIP Mr Heston, a fine actor and one the last great Hollywood stars.

This is from my IMDB post:
He was a great actor...didn't care for his bit in politics (apart from the Civil Rights which was loverly), but it is indeed sad.
Just because I don't agree with some of his political views, doesn't mean i didn't think he was kewl guy. He will be missed.
I will forever cherish the performance of Mr. Heston in my favorite version of "Hamlet", where he played The Player King. He gave me goosebumps in that film.
And one of his final performances in Tim Burton's "Planet of the Apes" was VERY eerie....
RIP. Mr. Heston. You will be missed.

Hello everyone,
Another fine actor had sadly passed away. Charlton Heston had a natural flare for great epic roles, from El Cid to Ben Hur, and impressed in just about everything I've ever seen him in. Like many others here, I didn't always agree with his political views, but he certainly had the courage of his convictions. I also deeply admire his sincerity and consideration towards his fans when he publically announced his illness. He will be very sadly missed.
Charlton Heston RIP (1924-2008)
With sad affection,
Andrés

I had the great pleasure of meeting Mr. Heston at the salute to Yakima Canutt's stunt career back in the 70s. My introduction to Mr. Heston? "Hello, my name is Pam, and I'm the president of the Christopher Lee International fan club" to which he replied "well, THERE'S a new one?! How is ol' Chris?" He must have laughed for a good 20 seconds or so.
He told wonderful stories about his films, including some very funny moments during the making of Planet of the Apes having to run through a cornfield with little on but a loin cloth. Yak kept reminding him there were ladies present *ha*.
He was a tremendous talent, a true gentleman, and a part of our film history that is forever silent, but lives on in his movie roles and personal interviews. It broke my heart when I saw his goodbye all those years ago when he announced he had Altzheimer's, and my heart breaks again for his family now.
Pam

Pam | Planet of the Apes is one of my favourite films, and one of his many great performances. I think his starring role, gave it the realism and power that made it a classic. A film that made a big impression on me when I first saw it as a young lad... especially that unforgettable end sequence.
I think I might just watch it for the umpteenth time this weekend.
