Rep Power: 9 | The Making Of A Legend, Christopher Lee. DVD
I finished watching this DVD some time ago, but have recently managed to find the hidden extra on it. The DVD itself, I found fascinating, listening to Mr Lee recounting his early film career.
Speaking straight to camera about each film, sharing his memories about each part, from the early one liners to the later more prominant parts upto 1957.
After a bit of searching I managed to find the hidden extra, and found that even more fascinating. Hearing Mr Lee speaking so candidly about the film industry and its many pitfalls was riveting.
I completely understood Mr Lee, when he spoke of certain films that he would rather not have been associated with, and the fact that once you have entered a contract and started filming, no matter how obvious to the stars involved that this film is going to be a disaster, they are obligated to finish it. It must be very disheartening for the artist involved in these cases. I think it must also be very disheartening to be involved with, and have finished a project you are quite proud of, only to find that it has suffered at the hands of an overzealous editor.
Mr Lee was also very candid about the cutthroat side of the movie business. A side of which he has experienced and been on the receiving end of.
Hearing him speak of his keennes to play The Phantom Of The Opera, and being rebuffed by someone at Hammer. How short sighted of them. If ever their was a part suited to Mr Lee's talents, surely that was it.
Sharing his musical and other personnel preferences was interesting also. I very much understood, when he spoke of being from another generation and that his musical tastes were of the Operatic style. My father had a similar attitude to todays more modern music. He would have cheered very loudly, if he were still alive today, at the demise of Top Of The Pops. I wouldn't dream of speaking for Mr Lee, but I do know that my dad could not bear to listen to any modern day mainstream music ie; anything from 1950's on.
Has anyone else seen this dvd, and what did you think of it.
And Dear Juan, is Volume 2 on the horizon, I look forward to this very much.
All the best to all.

Steve, I agree with you, this is a great DVD. I have enjoyed very much watching it. It's very nice to see Mr. Lee speaking straight to the camera. It was a little bit tricky to find the hidden extra, but after all I found it.
But I have a question about the "DVD-ROM weblink to exclusive CLW content": I have tried it some times, but I only reach a search result for DVD's.
Steve, have you tried this subject?
Kelly, I recommend this DVD.
I also would be very happy if there will be "The Making of a Legend Volume 2".
Juan, may I ask, if Mr. Lee has plans to make a sequel?
Conny

Hi Conny, Yes, I get the same thing on the DVD ROM. I think it may have something to do with the site problems they've been having recently.
I have also just finished watching the Jinnah dvd, which I thought was equally fascinating and very moving. Great performances all round. Have you seen this yet?
I too, am looking forward to Volume 2.
All the best.

Thanks Steve,
I've been building on my collection like crazy the last couple of months. I just picked up a collecter's edition of Mr. Lee as Sherlock Holmes, it includes both movies he did, and I must say, he IS Sherlock. Suffice it to say, I've been indulging myself. I may have to wait till the next payday till I pick up anything else. (sigh... oh to have enough money to play with!) HUGS!

I am not sure if I have ever seen these productions. If I have, it was many years ago. I think I might have to follow your lead and add these to my collection.
I should think Mr Lee made an excellent Holmes. He has the stature and the classic features represented in the illustrations.
I am a bit of a Holmes fan. I've always enjoyed the related films, and actually read a few of the adventures. I have a small BBC collection of Holmes plays, with Peter Cushing playing his role.
All the best

Hey Steve,
You MUST get these CDs, I've seen Mr. Lee in so many rolls as the bad guy that I was thrilled to see him as Holmes! The Hound of the Baskervilles was my first adventure into the delights of Mr. Lee when I was a kid. (sigh- love those long legs...can't help it, I'm only 5' tall!) It was the first of my growing collection of his movies. My boyfriend and I had a lengthy discussion of who was the best Holmes yesterday. He says Basil Rathbone and to tell you the truth, I agreed with him till I watched INCIDENT AT VICTORIA FALLS. He is incredible and oh so lovable!
hugs!

Kelly, years ago I watched Sherlock Holmes movies very often, and for me the best Holmes was Basil Rathbone, besides Mr. Lee. So far I have only seen The Deadly Necklace. Quite right, he is incredible ;)

I think Jeremy Brett is the best Holmes with Rathbone a close second.
Christopher Lee is very good in his Holmes roles but it's a pity that the films themselves aren't that good.
I would have loved to have seen him as Holmes with a decent director and a good script.
