Wink Cape Mr. Lee wore; found

Hi Everyone, I found this article which talks about the cape Mr. Lee wore as Dracula having been found. I guess it has been missing for 30 years and was found in a fancy dress shop. The article goes on to say that Mr. Lee was asked to verify its authenticity....

If you have the time and are interested, here is the link....

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7055342.stm

Just a thought....I think it is interesting that this 'cape' would be found during the time that the 1958 remastered 'Dracula' film is being exhibited....and so close to Halloween.....Interesting......

Cheers,;)
Helen

Hello everyone,

Indeed most interesting news, Helen! I think we both found out about this at about the same time, because I was writing up my own post about it and when I submitted it I saw you had beaten me to the draw, so to speak. So anyway, apologies for a somewhat redundant thread from my side. I agree, it's curious that the cape should be found now with the fiftieth anniversary of the release of the film coming up (and of course, fifty years since it was actually being made). It's great that such a unique item of memorabilia has not been permanently lost, and it will be interesting to see what happens to it. Personally, I think it should go to some kind of cinematic history museum, or at least be put on exhibition somewhere so that the public could have an opportunity to view it. Anyway, take care everyone:

Warmest regards,

Andrés

I agree that it should be preserved for visitation of all.

I, particularly always admired capes, mainly this (so long and good-looking). My mother always said that she would love to have this cape (same preferring other characters of Mr. Lee - she doesn't like to see the Dracula red eyes and the blood in the mouth).

Following your thought... is it reasonable for a point of (? ) in the authenticity of the cape.

Oh How neat , so often those things get lost, I can remember going to the Cleopatra exhibit at the field Museum in Chicago and part of the exhibit dealt with Cleopatra in film, they had the headress worn by Claudett Colbert and that wonderful gold dress that had been worn by Elizabeth Taylor, though the cape that went with the dress had been lost, such a shame, it was beautifully done. I hope Mr Lee's cape does go on exhibit somewhere.

Re: Cape Mr. Lee wore; found

I just heard that the cloak found of Mr. Lee's from Dracula 1958 was up for auction at Heritage Auctions and was scheduled for April 5-6. It has been pushed back to October. Reason being other items were discovered. I heard the fur collared jacket Peter Cushing wore as Van Helsing from the same film were going to be auctioned off also. There was also the cloak David Peel wore as the Baron Meinster from Brides of Dracula and another cloak with a red lining also believed to be worn by Mr. Lee. This place is a goldmine......wish I could snoop around in there.....However, it is FANTASTIC that these items are still around. Can't wait to see what they bring in. I wish photos couls be taken to share with all of the fans, that would be great.....
