Re: Lifetime Career Award for Mr. Lee

Hi Everyone, I visited the official website for the 'VIII Semana Internacional De Cine Fantastico Y De Terror' and they have a bit of an article about Mr. Lee receiving the 'Premio Unicornio de Oro (Golden Unicorn)....

Though my Spanish is not up to par for translating for you; for the most part you can understand what they are talking about...

It says a bit about his 'biography' and 'filmography' and even mentions Mr.Lee's delving into music 'immortal subjects like' (and lists some of the songs from Mr. Lee's 'Revelation' CD)......

A very nice writeup! There are some nice pictures of Mr. Lee as Count Dooku and Saruman; There is also a picture of the 'Golden Unicorn' (Very nice...Love Unicorns).....

If you are interested (the site is not in English) here is the link:

Hello everyone,

Both Luzmila and I would like to thank you for finding this information and posting it up on both the English and Spanish forums. An additional point which Luzmila would like me to raise is the following: there is a page on the website announcing that Mr Lee will be presented with the "Premio Unicornio de Oro" (Golden Unicorn) award on September 8th, 2007. The page also states that Mr Lee will be performing some of the songs from his latest album Revelation, therefore a double treat. The link to this page is http://www.fantasticoestepona.com/ActoClausura.htm, and the relevant section reads as follows: "En la entrega de premios, y como colofón estelar, Christopher Lee interpretará éxitos de su último disco Revelation, y recibirá el Galardón del Festival, Unicornio de Oro, a toda una carrera plagada de éxitos." (which roughly translated reads as "At the awards ceremony, and as a spectacular finale, Christopher Lee will perform hits from his latest album Revelation, and he will receive the Festival Award, the Golden Unicorn, for a career brimming with hits.") Congratulations to Mr Lee for yet another award in recognition of his long, distinguished, and varied career!

Warmest regards,

Andrés

Post Re: Lifetime Career Award for Mr. Lee

Hello everyone,

Luzmila has found the following information regarding the "Premio Unicornio de Oro" awards ceremony: according to various sources, Mr Lee was unfortunately unable to attend the "Golden Unicorn" awards ceremony held in Estepona for personal reasons. There is more information available from an article on the following website, dated 6/9/2007: http://www.estepona.es/actualidad2/amp_noticia.asp?id=3977 (note: the website is in Spanish).

(Which roughly translated means that "For personal reasons, [Mr] Lee was not able to appear in Estepona, and was represented by his daughter Christina, who was filled with emotion, and who presented the assembly with a video recording of Mr Lee expressing his gratitude to the organisers of the Festival for the award and announcing a forthcoming visit to the town, for which a date has not yet been decided. The tribute was brought to a close with a loud standing ovation from the audience.") The whole article (in Spanish) can be read here: http://www.estepona.es/actualidad2/a...ia.asp?id=3987.

As always, I would like to thank Luzmila for finding this news about Mr Lee. Her contributions are very much appreciated. Take care everyone:

Warmest regards,

Andrés

Re: Lifetime Career Award for Mr. Lee

It was a great day. The event started late, around 10.45pm and as soon as Christina was told that she would be picking up the award on behalf of her father, she starting caughing constantly due to stage fright. She calm down a bit as the night progressed.

Mr. Lee's ceremony started by the projection of selected clips from his best movies, it lasted 15 minutes. Then a video message from Mr. Lee was played, he delivered his message in perfect Spanish and included constant jokes which had the audience in stitches. These jokes do not translate well at all.

Once the message was over and Christina was called on the stage, she received (on Mr. Lee's behalf) the most beatiful gold unicorn and there was a very long and loud standing ovation.

Later, she had a queue of admirers commenting in Spanish how "Simpatica" (Charming) she was, kissing her and asking for her autograph. Even the reporters that were present, a few who were ex-pats showed great sign of respect towards Mr. Lee by saying that he is the last of the great Hollywood actors, a legend, etc, etc. They did not take pictures, they asked politely.

Mr. Lee was also presented with a plaque from the 501 Spanish Stormtrooper Legion for his work in Star Wars and many presents from people we have no idea who they were, as well as well wishes.

During dinner, we sat with the Minister for Culture, Paul Nashy and their families. The main subject of the night was his album Revelation which is currently being distributed in Spain through FNAC and in particular "Carmencita". In Spain, people seem to be much more knowledgably and appreciative of Mr. Lee's works that in the UK. There was not a single person that I have met that did not know that Mr. Lee could sing.

[color=black][size=2]We went to bed at around 3.30am in the morning. Christina

Smile Re: Lifetime Career Award for Mr. Lee

Many thanks indeed, Juan, for taking the time to share your recollection of the event. It sounds like a very splendid occasion, and I am really happy that both you and Christina had a wonderful time in Spain. It is reassuring to learn that "Revelation" is being distributed in Spain, and that people there are keeping up with Mr Lee's more recent projects ("estan al corriente"). I suspect that one reason is Mr Lee's collaborations with the group Rhapsody, which seems to have a widespread following in Spain.

I know how beautiful Málaga (the province in which Estepona is situated) is, and I have very fond memories of the time I visited this part of Spain while on a school trip, several years ago now. Málaga is famous for the "Costa del Sol" (Sun Coast) and the cities of Marbella and Ronda, amongst others. I have visited Ronda; it is a beautiful city which sits high up in a rather mountainous area, and, incidentally, it is home to the oldest bullfighting ring in Spain, which dates back to the late 18th century. There is also a town called Nerja, famous for its Caves ("Cuevas de Nerja") which a group of youths stumbled upon in 1959 while out hunting for bats. Inside are fascinating formations of stalactites and stalagmites, primitive wall paintings, and ancient skeletal remains, amongst other points of interest. When I visited these caves, I met a gentleman there, Sr. Zorilla, who had been one of the young boys who originally "discovered" them. Sr. Zorilla told me the story of how he and his friends came across these caves, and how they had realised from the very beginning that they had found "something big" (a rather modest way of putting it, I thought, considering that these caves have since become Spain's third most-visited tourist attraction).

Well, I have digressed slightly, but thinking about Málaga brought back all of these happy memories to me. My parents were friends with an old couple from Estepona, but both husband and wife have sadly passed away now. Thank you again for describing the evening for us, Juan. Take care everyone:

Warmest regards,

Andrés

Re: Lifetime Career Award for Mr. Lee

Thank you Juan for so many information.
I am also happy that everything was so good and that you appreciated this.
As for the fact of Christina to give autographs and everything more it doesn't surprise, therefore I imagine that being daughter of Mr. Lee makes her a to be loved by the her father's fans. In addition Christina should be a very kind, simpática and nice person. It is very good to hear that she was still smiling until the bedtime. We know that you also, Juan, was satisfied with everything, because we recognized your work and effort in all of the projects... that involve Mr. Lee.
Feelings for the lack of pictures, even so CONGRATULATIONS to all and, mainly to Mr. Lee.

Hello everyone,

Luzmila has found a blog which displays a photograph taken at the "Premio Unicornio de Oro" awards ceremony in Estepona. If you look carefully towards the centre of the image, you can spot Mr Lee's daughter, Christina, accompanied by her husband Juan Aneiros, both of whom you may recall attended the awards ceremony on behalf of Mr Lee. Christina Lee is holding the Golden Unicorn Lifetime Career award. Here is the link to the blog http://esteponaprensa.blogspot.com/2...lee-en-la.html and the direct link to the photograph itself http://bp0.blogger.com/_li5htZnf4Xw/...nt%C3%A1st.jpg. Thank you, Luzmila, for finding this. Take care everyone:

Warmest regards,

Andrés
