Great. I've never seen these films before. Pretty soon I have to start getting a new shelf for Mr Lee films . It's crammed as it is already.

Hello everyone,
Many thanks for the information, Asgeir! I've seen some of those films, but others I haven't. I would really like to see The Terror of the Tongs, which is one I've never seen before. Taste of Fear (a.k.a. Scream of Fear) is a brilliant film, and was screened very recently on UK television. I taped it and I can't wait to watch it again (I used to have it a long time ago, but either I taped over it, or misplaced the tape). I have a rather poor quality version of The Gorgon, so I'd be interested to check out this release to see if it's any better (hopefully they might have digitally remastered it or something fancy like that!) Cash On Demand is a real gem of a film, and I highly recommend that one to anyone who hasn't seen it yet. It is one of the best films to feature Peter Cushing opposite André Morell, and easily one of Hammer's finer works. All in all, sounds like a nice selection of films there. I don't know a lot about the other titles. Many thanks once more for the information. take care everyone and God bless:
Warmest regards,
Andrés

I have THE Castle of Fu-Manchu, Fu Manchu's Blood. / Fu Manch's Kiss.
I never saw " I Like the fear."
Already " The Gorgon" I also have, however the quality of the ribbon is not of the best. But it is a very good film. And it has that sentence where Mr. Lee's character says something more or less like this: " Will you leave me here in the street, in this cold? "

Interesting things to say about The Terror of the Tongs, Isabel. As I previously commented, I haven't seen the film myself, but I looked up the entry for this title in Jonathan Rigby's book on Mr Lee's career, and it states that this was the first feature film in which Mr Lee receives top billing. Mr Rigby describes the character played by Mr Lee as something like a "preliminary sketch" or precursor to Dr Fu Manchu, and the leader of a kind of Cantonese Mafia. It's not part of the Fu Manchu series of films though, Isabel. I'm really glad it's coming out on DVD, and I hope to see it when it does. I have one image of what I believe is a US poster for this film which I found online some time ago. For those of you who are interested, here it is: Anyway, take care everyone and God bless: Warmest regards, Andrés |

I attended there is a long time behind a film with Mr. Lee where he was a Chinese, but I get to remember of more details on the film. In Portuguese it it received the name of " The Sect of the Red Dragon", but I cannot also be affirmed the film was or not of the series of Fu - Manchu. " That it tortures this lack of memory! " :withstupi

While I have a strange affection for the film myself, it isn't a particularly good film. Jonathan Rigby is quite right in describing it as something of a precursor to Mr. Lee's role as Dr Fu Manchu, but on a less grand scale. A bit brutal, the lead is threatened with 'bone scraping', but unfortunately Mr. Lee's tong leader character is saddled with the name of Chung King, which does nothing but conjure up visions of tuna for me. Throws me off every time I see it. Strange film, with a strong sadistic streak, but one that I look forward to seeing on DVD.
Cheers! |

Some great titles on there, I look forward to "Taste of Fear", "The Gorgon" and "Cash on Demand" . I wonder if they will do "The Pirates of Blood River", I haven't seen it about so I don't know if it has been released in the UK.
Andres , I love the US "Terror of the Tongs" poster. If you like Hammer posters then take a look at my site on Hammer posters.

Hi Everyone, Since this thread has the term 'Hammer' in it, I thought I would post the following here.....
It seems 'Hammer' Films will be back!?...According to a BBC article (see link below), Hammer has been purchased by a Dutch Company along with the rights to approx. 300 films?.....
So those of you who are Hammer fans may find this good news....Though not a huge fan, I am sorry to see the 'loss' of this British Icon to the Isles......:(
If you are interested here is the link........ http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6644203.stm
Cheers,;)
Helen

Hello everyone,
Indeed, Helen! This has been on the news throughout the day. Apparently it does seem as though Hammer is set to make a comeback, although I'm a bit unsure as to the intentions of the new owners. Are we going to see remakes of all the old classic titles? Will they be making completely new films? It's exciting to think that Hammer will be making films again. I think there is definitely the potential here to make successful quality films, but only if they are able to attract good actors and professional people "behind the cameras", so to speak. It was lovely seeing Ingrid Pitt on Sky News, who spoke briefly this, expressing her interest in working on one of the films. She also said that she was currently working on three films, and even said she'd recently spoken with Mr Lee and how very fond she is of him. I'm not too disappointed to read that it is a Dutch company which has purchased Hammer, because, as it was, it was really a defunct company, and now at least it has a chance of returning to the film industry. I hope that we shall see some good films coming out soon. Anyway, many thanks for the information and the link, Helen. Take care everyone:
Warmest regards,
Andrés
