Hello everyone,
I have just heard the sad news that the British composer, Sir Malcolm Arnold, has died aged 84. He passed away in hospital on 23rd September, 2006, after a brief illness.
Sir Malcolm Arnold was born on 21st October, 1921, in Northhampton, and studied composition (with Gordon Jacob) and trumpet (with Ernest Hall) at the Royal College of Music. Amongst the many musical scores he composed for films, perhaps the most famous are the Academy-Award winning score for
The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) and
The Inn of the Sixth Happiness (1958),which was awarded the Ivor Novello. The former of the two he remarkably accomplished in just ten days. Other noteworthy films which he collaborated on include
Hobson's Choice (1954), and
Whistle Down The Wind (1961). As well as his work in films, he also composed seven ballets, nine symphonies, and two operas. Sir Malcolm Arnold also wrote the score for one film Mr Lee worked in,
Port Afrique (1956).

I am certain that Sir Malcolm Arnold will be greatly missed by family and friends, and those who appreciated his musical talent. He once said he wished to be remembered as an "honest composer". Sir Malcolm Arnold, KBE (21 October, 1921-23rd September, 2006) R.I.P. God bless:
Warmest regards,
