Hello everyone,
This is an interesting topic. I, for one, am curious as to how Mr Lee would choose to play Dr Loomis. But I am not so sure whether Mr Lee would be interested in appearing in a remake of
Halloween. I have read conflicting views on Mr Lee's views on this subject. Some sources I have read do maintain that Mr Lee said it was "his biggest mistake" (see for example IMDb at
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000489/bio under the "Trivia" section). However, other sources refute this. In Jonathan Rigby's
Christopher Lee: The Authorised Screen History, for instance, one can read the following: "'I don't regret that,' Lee insisted in 1995. 'I said there was nothing in this character, all he does is say "This man is dangerous and mad."'" (Rigby, Jonathan,
Christopher Lee: The Authorised Screen History, (Surrey, England: Reynolds and Hearn Ltd., 2001), p. 178).
Therefore, I would think the best thing would be to find out how Mr Lee feels about the part now, and whether he would want to play Dr Loomis in a remake of
Halloween, and then go on from there. Judging by the standards of most recent remakes, I can only imagine how dreadfully this project might end without a contribution from some good actors who can meet the challenges of reinterpreting such a classic film of its genre. I would definitely like to know what Mr Lee thinks... and, of course, it's also up to the director and the producers, as to whether they would want Mr Lee for the role.
On a related note, does anyone have any views about the current obsession with remaking films which were brilliant the first time round? Call me fastidious if you like, but I don't quite see the point of it. Is it just me, or does anyone else get the feeling that some of the companies in the film industry are growing increasingly lazy and are becoming overly dependent on other people's great ideas?
Warmest regards,
Andrés
