Smile American Cinematheque

I just found an interesting tidbit of information that I thought I would share. From the 8th through th 25th of June 2006, the American Cinematheque (Los Angeles California) is celebrating:......"The Golden Age of British Horror, 1955-1975."

The Egyptian Theatre is hosting a number of Mr. Lee and Mr. Cushing's movies.

They list such films as: Revenge of Frankenstein, Horror of Dracula, The Gorgon, The two faces of Dr. Jekyll, The Skull, Face of Fu Manchu, to name a few.

If you are interested in more information here are two links.

Hello everyone,

I know that there will be many people who'll disagree with me, but, strictly speaking, The Wicker Man is not a "horror film." Nevertheless, it is such a brilliantly horrifying film that I am sure none of the audience members would have been in the least upset had it been included amongst the other titles.

It certainly does sound like an enjoyable event, Helen! Those lucky Californians are in for a treat! I wonder if any CLW members will be able to attend. If so, it would be very interesting to hear their thoughts and impressions:

Warmest regards,

Andrés

"ROAD TRIP!"

Wish we could all go! What a great way to get us all together (maybe Mr. Lee, too!)

L.A. is as far away from me as England, only in the opposite direction.

Andres, You are absolutely correct....It is a brilliant 'horrifying' film rather than a 'horror' film........Just thought it should be listed with the 'golden greats' of British film making........

Cheers, ;)

Hello everyone,

Indeed, Helen! It is rather unfortunate that The Wicker Man has not made it, being such a splendid film, but I can understand the reasoning, given the title of the celebration. I suppose that the organisers wanted to adhere strictly to the genre... still, it would've been great if they had included it in an "honorary" capacity. The Wicker Man deserves as much widespread recognition as possible!

Having made my remarks about the genre, however, I did notice that X, The Unknown and a couple of the Quatermass films have made it onto the list. I haven't watched any of these, but surely they would be more accurately described as "sci-fi" rather than "horror," no? Food for thought...Anyway, a wonderful line-up, nonetheless:

Warmest regards,

Andrés
