Smile Silver Stars in London

It seems that London is getting their own 'Avenue of Stars'.... A number of sources are relating that initially 100 silver stars are to be placed in Covent Gardens, with the 'Stars' name etched in them....

On September 18th the first 100 stars are to be unveiled and announced in a special Television Broadcast in the UK.....

Dare we hope that Mr. Lee will be one of these first 100 stars in Covent Gardens.....My heartfelt hopes and wishes are for this to be.....

There are many great performers from Great Britain and her Commonwealths, I am overjoyed to see this special tribute to the contributions made by these performers....

Here is one of the links.....There are lots of others, this event has even been showing up in places like The Washington Post!

Cheers, ;)

Smile Re: Silver Stars in London

Hello everyone,

Fascinating information, Helen! Thank you for letting us all know about the proposed "Avenue of Stars" for London (or "Walk of Fame" as I've seen it called in some online articles.)

It seems like a very "stellar" way of paying tribute to some of the many celebrities or famous figures from the UK (and Commonwealth) who have entertained us all in some way or other over the years. It will be very interesting to see which names make it into the first 100 stars and which do not.

I very much hope that Mr Lee will be one of the people chosen to receive a star in his name, because he has entertained the world for more than five decades through his magnificent work in the cinema, television, the stage, music, and even in lesser known mediums like computer games and audio books. If anyone deserves to be recognised, it is Mr Lee. I would also give a star to Peter Cushing, who again entertained us all for many, many years with his brilliant performances.

The first sixteen names have already been released: Lord Olivier; Tommy Cooper; The Rolling Stones; Nicole Kidman; Billy Connolly; Sir Charlie Chaplin; Peter Sellers; Dame Shirley Bassey; Ant and Dec; Dame Edna Everage; The Two Ronnies; Ricky Gervais; Sir Alfred Hitchcock; Sir Alec Guinness; Sir Rex Harrison; John Cleese.

I will certainly be keeping my fingers crossed for Mr Lee from now until September 18th, and I wish him the very best of luck:

Warmest regards,

Andrés :)

The BBC came out with the full list of 100 stars on the 'avenue of the stars' at Covent Garden.....I was ecstatic to see Mr. Lee's name on this list! I was sincerely hoping that Mr. Lee would be one of the first 100 stars.....

Congratulations Mr. Lee and Thank You for your continuing contributions to the performing arts...

I can't wait to see this avenue.....

Hello everyone,

Excellent news, Helen!! I watched last night's programme celebrating the many people who have entertained viewers here in the UK, and across the world with high hopes that Mr Lee would receive a much-deserved star along the avenue at Covent Garden. I must have either missed his name and face amongst those mentioned throughout the show, or he was not mentioned on the night itself.

I must confess that the list you indicate in your post contains several surprises, in the sense that quite a few of the names received no mention at all during the programme, or if they did, it must have been a fleeting mention while I was out of the room. I know my mother was watching the show as well, and she didn't spot Mr Lee either. I wonder if anyone else who watched last night knows whether or not he was cited.

In any case, it is absolutely brilliant to see that Mr Lee is being "officially" recognised for all his many years of entertaining people all over the world, and the star is a very lovely way of paying tribute to an even lovelier gentleman. My one great disappointment is that they forgot to reserve one for the sadly missed Mr Peter Cushing, who also deserved a star for his brilliant work in TV and Cinema. Hopefully, he will have a star too, and in the not too distant future. My concern right now though is... "between which two names have they placed Mr Lee:questionm"

Warmest regards,

Andrés

Re: Silver Stars in London

I agree Andres, there were a few surprises and disappointments in the list. But, in the articles leading up to this momentous occasion, they did say that there might be questions about some of the choices. However, more stars are to be added, so I think we will see a lot of people that were left off this time, honoured in the future. And yes, it will be interesting to see where Mr. Lee's star resides.......

ITV has also published their official list of the avenue of stars, and can be seen at the following link.
