Hey Dave,
Found Kevin's Smith review. I warn you it contains very strong language - and a lot of spoilers!
I'm so excited about this film - ridiculously so. I've got loads of pre-booked tickets to see it with my mates - even my dad is coming with me to one - he only liked AOTC because of Mr Lee anyway!

Happy reading!

A customer in my store today told me of Smith's review, but I was too busy to get all the details. THANK YOU!!
Honestly, I may go gibbering, frothing mad waiting for the 19th. I haven't read such orgasmically ecstatic reviews for a film since...well, maybe since A New Hope.
Awesome, awesome, awesome, AWESOME, AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im with your Dad Novak, AOTC picked up toward the end when Count Dookus screen time increased. Shame George couldnt expand it more for this one but im
assuming Dooku will have a smaller part to expand the Emperors need for Anakin to join him. Dont know what happens and dont want to until the 19th but i have a feeling Dooku will be limited which is a shame because the best part of AOTC was the hanger lightsaber duel between Dooku , Yoda, Obi Wan and Anakin

I know it's a shame.... I've read all over the place that Dooku's role is very, very short, even though he gets a mention in the opening crawl again. Although I'm grateful for any opportunity to see Mr Lee on the big screen, I think it's a mistake to deny this character some more back-story and action. I'm not a big enough fan to shell out for all the myriad books etc, so all I know abou the character is from the films... I think Lucas is lucky that he was able to get an actor of Mr Lee's stature and class otherwise Dooku would have been another faceless character. (Like Obi-Wan - as good as Ewan McGregor is, he's no Alec Guinness).
Still, role on 19th May!!!
(Does anyone know when Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is out?)
PS- I don't want to name drop here - but I lived in Islington for 6 months ealier this year, near the Almeida theatre... where one Ian McDiarmid was artistic director was in charge. And I saw him! He's not as tall as I imagined - but he was so warm and friendly - hard to believe he played and will be playing again the emperor who scared the living daylights out of me when I was 8!!!

In the end, Count Dooku is a pawn, guys...his role in onscreen time may be small, but his purpose isn't. That, for me, is the important thing.
McGregor's Obi-Wan faceless?? You must be kidding! He and McDiarmid have held this prequel trilogy together. They deserve immense credit.
Anyway, this thread is for ROTS reviews only. There's another I started specifically for Dooku talk ("Count Dooku's ultimate role").
Thanks! :)

Check out Rotten Tomatoes...the film's at 92%!!! That's astonishing...24 positive reviews versus a mere two. Excellent!!! http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/star_wars_3/

I saw a poster yesterday on the street of Episode III. A picture of Anakin changing to Darth Vader and a voice saying "Arise lord Vader" and a bit of music. A great 3d poster. :)

I think McDiarmid will obviously steal the show in Episode III, and his brief bits in the first two enlivened them no end.
In the Sunday Times last week they reviewed the Clone Wars DVD - and the main, nay only criticism was that there were too many characters who were interchangeable. For every Count Dooku there are three bland Jedi Knights, for every Palpatine there is an Amidala, or worse, a Jar-Jar, and this extends to the films. Would we remember them if they all weren't played by such famous actors? And conversely, would Dooku be such a memorable character if not played by Mr Lee? I think not.
It's not the actor's fault by any means, they've proved their mettle elsewhere, and in the case of Obi-Wan he's acting in the shadow of one of the greatest British screen actors.
Still I'm hoping my general disappointment with these prequels will be washed away with EP3 - these reviews have built my excitement up no end!!!

I just read a rather scathing review in Rolling Stone. I was actually surprised that this magazine would pan the film so badly. I've never really read this guy's articles before, so maybe he's like this with every film. but sheesh, he really dislikes Lucas that much is certain.
I really don't care what anyone says though. I am just so dang psyched for this movie, I can't hardly stand to wait any longer!

The Tomatometer is currently at 83%. Unfortunately, the last few reviews haven't been good, including a positively scathing one from Rolling Stone's Peter Travers. Of course, when early reviews are nearly 100% positive, later ones are often the opposite just to attract attention to themselves. The film is still running a full twenty percent better than either predecessor.
The critic I'm most interested in hearing from is, obviously, Ebert. He was among the only reviewers on the planet to give thumbs up to The Phantom Menace, yet thoroughly trashed Attack of the Clones. Bizarre, to say the least.
