"The Baker Street Irregulars" what happened?

A year or so ago a new Sherlock Holmes film was in the pipeline with the working title of "The Baker Street Irregulars". Malcolm McDowell was on board as Sherlock Holmes and Mr Lee was to be the master criminal Professor Moriarty. Does Juan or anyone know what happened with this film? I take it production has fallen through by now but would like to find out why as I like most people was very excited about the prospect of seeing Mr Lee in a new Holmes film but this time as the Napoleon of Crime himself.

Re: "The Baker Street Irregulars" what happened?

I'd be curious about details myself (no surprise that, I'm sure) since last I heard it was a scheduling issue due to Mr. Lee's Star Wars commitment, or at least that is what Malcolm MacDowell said in a Toronto Star interview dated (01/30/04). I'll quote the relevant, and possibly not so relevant bits:

Quote:

McDowell is very much a take-it-as-it-goes kind of guy. He's been in ongoing discussions with another veteran actor, Christopher Lee, about appearing in a film together.

"I'm supposed to be doing Sherlock Holmes to his Moriarty. But he can't do it now, because of this Star Wars thing he's doing."

McDowell imitates Lee's formal British accent: "I kahn't do it now, we'll have to do it next year. When will you be free? We want you to do it."

Lee will just have to take a number. There are a lot of people who want McDowell in their films.

Based on that, which is a rather weak foundation, it still sounded like a possibility at the time of the interview, although I suspect Mr. Lee would have mentioned it in his Christmas message if there was any likelihood of this seeing the light of day in 2005. On the other hand, as this was to be a Harry Alan Towers production, and with Towers recent track record (Sumuru anyone???), maybe it's all for the best...

In any event, that's the last I heard.
