Upcoming Christopher Lee films on Region2 DVD

21st March looks to be a good date for fans as three Mr Lee films are finally being released on DVD. As well as the eagerly awaited Crimson Rivers 2 this date sees release of the campy horror flick from Tony Tenser "Curse Of The Crimson Altar" and the martial arts Chuck Norris 1981 vehicle "On Eye For An Eye" with Mr Lee as the villain. Also released on this date is "The Devil's Men" aka "Land Of The Minatour" a horror film based on Greek mythology with Peter Cushing and Donald Pleasence. check out www.sendit.com to see all these titles.

Curse of the Crimson Altar is a wonderful little film. Campy, perhaps, but Mr. Lee and Boris Karloff are superb together, the film manages some nicely atmospheric moments, and Barbara Steele appears half naked and green.

That's enough for me.

I reiterate, Barbara Steele appears half naked and green. Works for me.

Honestly, I like the film. Yes, it's hokum, but how many genre films aren't?

I look forward to the DVD.

Ah great to hear about the release of The Curse Of The Crimson Altar!
I have seen it when I was a little boy (a few years ago) but I can't remember much of it. I only know I liked Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee together in an Lovercraft film.

But An Eye For An Eye was actually one of my first dvd movies. As far as I know it was the first Christopher Lee movie on dvd here in the Netherlands.
Netherlands is region 2. And The Crimson Rivers 2; The Angels Of Apocalypse is also one I have for like 2/3 months now...
So they where already released before this day...

But about what european countrey where you talking?
I could not find anything on the Crimson Cult dvd... :(

Hello Jacob!

I saw you are coming from the Netherlands as well.
Where do you get the dvd import's from?

Mostly I get my imports from Boudisque or the land itself.
But Boudisque is mostly very late and expansive...

Hello Tepes, yes, i'm Dutch. ;)

Boudisque is way too expensive, i order online. All you need is a credit card.
www.play.com is where i get my UK imports. And for my Region 1 (US) imports i mostly order from www.dvdsoon.com which is a Canadian site.

In Amsterdam there's also a shop called Silver Screen. http://www.silverscreen.nl/main.asp
(turn right at the Boudisque and keep walking for 15 min or so).
They have a lot of UK imports. I used to go there before dvd existed and bought my (horror) import vhs tapes overthere.
Very cool shop. Mr Lee even had been there. An autographed picture hangs in the shop as a 'trophy'. :)
If you live in Amsterdam you probably know that shop anyway.

Re: Upcoming Christopher Lee films on Region2 DVD

Crimson Rivers 2 release has now been put back to 25th April.
Curse Of The Crimson Altar also features a great extra where Mr Lee remembers Boris Karloff. Also released today is the The Devil's Men starring Peter Cushing and Donald Pleasence, on this DVD Mr Lee remembers Peter Cushing. Its always a treat to hear Mr Lee recall his relationship with his great friend. The extras on these two DVD's are worth the purchase alone. Both have been released today.

One can also try eBay, by the way...I'm bidding on a copy of Crimson Altar right now. Currently at 3 and a half pounds (I'm sure it'll go up considerably).

I always find eBay the one-stop solution for just about everything.

Unhappy Re: Upcoming Christopher Lee films on Region2 DVD

I've just seen the 'Curse Of The Crimson Altar' dvd and i have mixed feelings about this release.

The packaging is great, very nice 24 page booklet and the extra on the dvd, an excellent 24 min interview with Mr Lee about Karloff, is allready worth buying this dvd for.

The main problem is the image quality. This also aplies to the other DD Video dvd's i have. (Night Of the Big Heat, Island Of Terror and the UK release of The Creeping Flesh )
There's this red glow over the image of the movie which looks unnatural and is annoying imo. See screenshot.

Doesn't do DD Video have quality control??
If it was released like this by MGM, Warner or any other major company complaints would be everywhere.

Oh and while i'm busy complaining :p Audio isn't synchronised at certain points. It's minimal but at some points i did notice it.

An allright release which could have been better.

Re: Upcoming Christopher Lee films on Region2 DVD

Im also unimpressed by the lack of widescreen on these DVD's.

Anchor bay and Midnite Movies both distributing in the US have excellent releases of Mr Lee's and Vincent price's films. Why can't we have the same here??

Im surprised Crimson Altar isn't available in the states, because almost every other Christopher Lee film is.

Re: Upcoming Christopher Lee films on Region2 DVD

My understanding is that Crimson Altar is widescreen. The image Jacob posted would confirm that.
