Wicker Remains

Apologies to those on the site who've seen this before but , as there are so many new members , I thought it would be interesting for them to see what remains of The Wickerman .

Hey everyone,

Cool photo Matt! I already knew about the fate of the Wicker Man effigy because I have seen a couple of documentaries on the film. I remember one which had Mark Kermode (Burnt Offering: The Cult of the Wicker Man) taking a long stroll down memory lane, and pointing out the stumps as the remnants of the Wicker Man.

That was a particularly interesting documentary, very informative, but the first time I taped it the video tape went awry so that the image and the sound quality was very distorted. Luckily, Channel Four decided to repeat the documentary some time later, and I taped it on two different machines just to be on the safe side. I've since watched it several times, and it contains a wealth of information.

If you don't mind Matt, could you tell us some more about your experience, about seeing the stumps, the location, etc. I, for one, would be really interested to know what your impressions were. Many thanks for the picture, it's fabulous:

Kindest regards and best wishes,

poeraven :)

Re: Wicker Remains

A two hour car journey takes me into the heart of Wickerman country .

Most of the places and locations are EXACTLY as they were in the movie . It's a beautiful part of Scotland that seems to be stuck in a time warp .
Best of all , it's not commercialised or built up . In fact only a small sign points the way to the remains of the Wickerman .
You have to leave your car and walk about half a mile to the cliff edge before you see the stumps . It's an isolated spot perched about 70 ft from the rocks below and the whole area has a magical air surrounding it . It's very easy to see why the filmakers chose this location .
I've visited a couple of times for Wickerman festivals which invole midnight showings of the film and a huge outdoor party during which real Wickermen are set alight .
If you ever get the chance to visit the area , do so ......... you won't regret it .

Thanks for sharing those photos! You certainly are lucky to be able to live within traveling distance of that site. It looks beautiful. Hope someday to see for myself. :)
