I taped it off Sky Cinema last night, or rather this morning as some bright spark decided to put it on at 1.30a.m! What were they thinking??
I've never seen it before, and have heard that it is hilarious.
Any comments to build up my anticipation and excitement until home-time?

Oh well, looks like I'm going to have to watch it with only half the anticipation, without the valued recommendation of the good people of this site (sniffle!)
Damn that tumbleweed!

well i think it's a CLASSIC in itself. i never did understand why it flopped when it 1st came out. Christopher Lee is great in it. but ain't he ALWYS?:D
he speaks NOT ENGLISH in 1941. it's ALL subtitled! but it's great i still need 2 get The DVD of it. my brother has it an he taped me it an it's i think a half an hr. longer or something like that than the origianal cut an it's even better than the version i' am use 2! :D
it's a comedy of the war naturally. a GREAT cast is in it. my fave character is JOHN Belushi's. Well i hope i convinced ya on watching it.

You can hear Mr Lee speak one of the best lines in the film. In german of course.:)

Way hey! Responses at last!
I managed to watch a bit of it, but my video player needs some tuning or something because I kept getting those anoying lines down the screen and it was sending me dizzy! (er than usual) So I had to stop.
From what I saw - what subtitles??? Were Sky saving the pennies or something because there certainly weren't any!! I may have a GCSE in German but that was nearly 10 years ago and I'm not THAT good! I have a strange feeling that an Amazon purchase may be in order...

Ooooh widescreen!! My dream purchase is a widescreen TV with surround sound!!! Perfect!!!
I think Sky Cinema are just cheapskates! But I suppose most of the films that they show are old, so they use old versions.
It's pay day on Friday so I think I hear Amazon calling. But it will have to wait until both the leaky boiler and the oven are fixed. They had to go on the blink at the same time didn't they!

I've seen it with subtitles, as well. This film is very funny, and pokes fun at a lot of things and other films. (Like Jaws.) I found it hilarious at times, like Mr. Lee speaking German to Toshiro Mifune and Mifune answering him in Japanese, and they were understanding each other. The most spectacular scene, of course, was probably when the ferris wheel broke loose and went rolling down the street. What a way to try to win a war!

Spielberg took a bashing for going way, way overbudget on this film, but I think the results were worth it. I've never considered it among his lesser works. Now Hook, well, there's a different story! Never been immensely fond of Always either.
