Mr. Lee played Death in the animated adaptations of Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters, and I thought that he was absolutely perfect in the role! Hopefully there will be movies based on the Colour of Magic and the Light Fantastic, which are the first two books in the series. Mr. Lee could voice Death in that too, but I can equally as well imagine him as Lord Vetinarii, or Galder Weatherwax the wizard (but that would be a relatively small role).

The sly aristocrat that knows all that goes on in the cesspit...erm...fair...city... of Ankh Morpork, would have been right up his alley. As for playing any of the wizards, well, that just doesn't click for me on any level. Still, Death is THE plumb role, and perfect for Mr. Lee. My wish is that Reaper Man had been dramatized with Mr. Lee, as it is really the meatiest of the stories to feature Death front and centre.
Ook!

I myself have not seen any of these animations, but being an avid Discworld fan and follower, I can imagine that death is the role for Mr. Lee, although I can just as perfectly see him as Havelock Vetinari.
I think most of the wizards (that play in more significant roles) are a bit too... comical, I couldn't imagine Mr. Lee playing any of them.

I agree that the wizards in the later books - like the Dean and the Bursar - are a lot more comical, but Galder is one of the more serious ones. He only appears in the Light Fantastic, however.

One of my favorite Discworld books (so far, I haven't read them all) was Mort.
I understand that Mr. Lee's voice as Death was used on a video game of some sort relating to Discworld as well.

Really? Which game? I've played all three. Hopefully more will be made.
I think I'm turning into the Patrician; last week I closed a conversation by saying 'don't let me detain you'.:D

I was thinking of other charaters, and June Brown (Nanny in Gormenghast) would make a great Granny Weatherwax. Dawn French would be good as Mrs. Cake, and I would either cast Brian Blessed or Jonathon Rhys Davies as Ridcully. Any suggestions on Nanny Ogg?

Maybe a very disgruntled Angela Landsbury?
About the games. . . I'm not sure. A Discworld fanatic at work was discussing them with me. I've never played a computer game in my life so most of it was lost on me anyhow. I only retained that one little bit of information. I'll ask and see if I can find anything out.

I'm totally new to Discworld, and have only just started to read 'Interesting Times' (it was the earliest one of the Discworld books that our library had...) but already think it's great stuff! The humour's just fantastic!
I'm going to try and get my hands on the earlier ones if I can, but think that I can already see why Mr. Lee makes a good 'Death' from what I've been told about the character. I have been told that he'd fit perfectly as the Patrician, though, too by the good friend who recommended the books to me (or ordered me to read them, more like! ;) - thanks Gill!)

I just you'd like The Great Pratchett (you might be seeing where I'm coming from with my approach to Terra Incognito!). Intersting Times ,eh? That's a good one! The counterweight Continent! "This is NOT an albatross." Cohen and the Silver Horde! Brilliant!
My personal favourites are all the Death stories, Gaurds! Gaurds!, Jingo and the brilliant Night Watch . But they're all damn good. Mr Pratchett's inventiveness knows no bounds.
Yes, Mr Lee would be spot on as Vetinari - I can just see him in Jingo, dealing with Nobby and Colon, doing all those wonderful magic tricks in the Klatchian market (and getting the donkey down from the minaret!), and that great moment when he denies being able to speak Klatchian - just after he translates it! Christopher Lee, doing the Stare , and firmly telling Colon "Not a word."
That's just my opinion anyway. Of couse he's perfect for Death, but it's been mentioned in the books that Vetinari "intimately resembles" Death. How 'bout a double role?
And I love the Librarian. Ook. Eek!:D

:D Heh - I've finished Interesting Times now - it was really great! I love the humour. I've got myself a copy of The Colour of Magic off Ebay, and I'm going back to my library later to take out a couple of others. I'll have quite a few read in no time! I'm so glad I've been introduced to them! My thanks to you, Gill!
And I kinda see the parts of it in Terra Incognito, I must admit! :D

Trust me to dig up on old threads - I just had to share this picture that I recently drew: Patrician Drawing
I've become quite a Discworld fan now after a good two months straight of reading every Discworld book I could lay my hands on (still have a good 19-odd to go, of course), but I digress...I was just drawing this the other day and the first thing my twin said when she set eyes on it was 'Is that Christopher Lee?' Well, no, it's not, but because some of you mentioned that Mr. Lee could easily play the part of the Havelock Vetinari, I thought I'd share it with you. I think that I put quite a bit of Mr. Lee into him, now that I think about it...
Anyway, shameless but on-topic plug. :D Sorry about that.

W00t for getting to know Discworld, Jurious, you've got some great reads ahead of you ^.~ that picture is great :)
Yeah, John-Rhys Davis would be so good as Ridcully... although the guy who did his voice in the Soul Music animation (yess I was finally able to find a copy :D) did a good job too.
