just saw the movie this morning before work, a great start for a day. i thought some scenebuildings look very similar to "at the earth's core" with peter cushing, who's also in this movie anyway. same director, made two years later by the same company...they spared money...don't they?

Ah me, I have a weakness for Arabian Adventure that dates back a number of years. I mean the film itself is nothing more than a somewhat weak remake (okay, re-imagining if you prefer) of the 1940 Sabu classic - The Thief of Bagdad (a film that I rate right up there with the Errol Flynn classic - The Adventures of Robin Hood, on a purely fun-driven scale), but the opportunity to watch Christopher Lee essentially play a part originally essayed by his own screen idol - Conrad Veidt - is an illuminating and highly rewarding experience. While I still tend to prefer Veidt's sinister take on the nasty Vizier-type, Mr. Lee is no slouch either! Make no mistake, it is simply Saturday afternoon popcorn fare, but it is a good deal of fun! See Arabian Adventure if you have the opportunity.

Cheers!

I've read that too, about Mr. Lee essentially doing the role with great respect and homage to Conrad Veidt. It was great fun when I watched it on television (have been trying to locate it on video), and he played for the first time with Emma Samms, with whom he also starred in "Goliath Awaits". (Or is that vice-versa?)
I enjoyed all the magic and special effects, and Mr. Lee was really great in the role as the evil magician.
