I've just finished reading The Three Musketeers - a fine book, I must say! - and I really want to see the films again now, starring Oliver Reed, Michael York and, of course, Mr. Lee.
However, one thing I did notice through reading the original text is that Rochefort's role in the film was fleshed out a lot more compared to what was in the book. The Count de Rochefort is still a shadowy, enigmatic and reasonably sardonic character when we do have the chance of meeting him during the story, but his role does seem a lot more in the background. I'm glad it was fleshed out in the film adaptations - Rochefort was made into such a great role for Mr. Lee, and he'll always be one of my favourites of Mr. Lee's 'faces' seeing as it's the first character I can ever remember seeing Mr. Lee as... before I even knew who he was. :D
I'm not just rambling for the sake of it, by the way... one thing I wonder about is why the eye-patch? Rochefort had a scar on the left side of his forehead in the book, but no eyepatch. Was it just to give him a more clearly sinister edge? It's no big deal, I just wondered... but it's sooo (as everyone points out) Captain Hook. :P LOL
