I just picked up a Brazilian release of The Vampire Lovers, under the title "Carmilla," on Region 0 DVD on eBay for $15!
The Item # is 3311532829, if anyone's interested. This particular vendor is quite reputable, a Power Seller, and in fact has an eBay store called Trax Musical Mind. It may be possible to contact them for additional copies.

Nope -- waited too long and lost it.
Oh, well...I just got DSL (YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and have been downloading like crazy. Kinda lost track of my eBay concerns.
I'm sure another one will turn up.
Thanks again for the tip!

You're sure these region 0's aren't bootlegs?
I bought an Iron Maiden - Life After Death dvd once from a Brasilian site.
(This show isn't available anywhere else on dvd)
According to the site (and what i've read on a heavy metal mailing list) these weren't bootlegs.
When i got the dvd the quality wasn't up to the usual Iron Maiden standard.
My very old vhs tape looks better than the dvd!
DD 5.1 sound was pretty good though, but it wasn't synchronised with the things going on at the screen. About 1/10th of a second off.
The dvd didn't had a bar code or links to the Iron Maiden website/management, which means..............bootleg.
There seems to be alot of so-called Brasilian dvd's out there sold as official, but are bootlegs.
Be aware before buying!

No, Jacob, I'm not sure...but I only paid $15 for it, and I've shelled out more than that for a single VHS title on eBay.
We'll see.

HeyJacob;
i just got 2 brazilian DVD's myself, and i am really satisfied with both of them.
I got Whitesnake (Starkers in Tokyo) an acoustic show with just David Coverdale and Adrian Vandenberg and it's in dolby digital , looks fine and sounds great.
The other one is the HP Lovecraft film "Necronomicon book of the dead", and even if it's not Widescreen, it still looks good and sounds great.
here are two links for the same titles that some sellers have on auctions: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=3314035972 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...9&category=2303 |

You paid $15 for what is probably a poor quality bootleg, when a good quality DVD is coming later this year from MGM for the same price, featuring a commentary PLUS "Countess Dracula"?
Sounds like you didn't get much of a bargin to me!

Gary, your opinion is very much appreciated...nonetheless, I'm content with my purchase, whatever it may turn out to be. I enjoy collecting rare films, including foreign releases, and have many duplicate titles.
BTW, I don't recall ever saying I got a "bargain."

Okay, received it yesterday...the quality is quite good. My only complaint, it isn't widescreen -- but the transfer is crisp, not as clean as I'd like but crisp, and the packaging's beautiful.
I'm notorious for buying duplicate titles just for the cool new packaging. I must have Satanic at least 5 times over. This "Carmilla" DVD sports some of the most eye-catching packaging I've seen yet for a Hammer film.
I wouldn't say to everybody go straight to eBay and grab one, the upcoming MGM release will be far, far superior no doubt, but I'm content.

i borrowed The Vampire Lovers from a friend of mine about a year or so ago. an granted it was the old vhs copy of it. i thought it was a terrible movie. i mean it was so sloooooooooooow i must admit i am a bit curious on seeing the directors cut of it. but my only really big complaint is that Peter Cushing wasn't in it that much. true it was a change of space for hammer didnt' they make it? i mean lesbian movies weren't really made at the time it was made in 1970. but everyone else is different i mean some of U may like it an some of you may hate it but me i don't hate it. i just wish i would have enjoyed it better than i did that all.
