I recently started collecting the "Lord of the Rings" trading cards by Topps. The most important question to me is: Were the Saruman autograph cards really signed by Mr. Lee? Or was it just a secretary? I`m sorry if this has already been discussed.
Thank you!

Isabelle,
There are a lot of those going around which are fakes, as Juan has said before they are very easy to copy, and make, any one with a good computer can do them.
May be later there may be some up for sell on this site, you will have to watch the posts, Juan may have some left. I don't know.
But this would be the place to get them if you can.
Then you know that they are the real thing.

It's funny, there's an autograph company that I deal with on a regular basis that had a special signing with Mr. Lee a few weeks back...they have one of his Saruman photos auto'd and up for sale on Ebay and it's fetching, the last time I checked, 100.00, probably more now...
These people should just check here first...

Yes that's a good idea, but be careful, there are a lot of fakes, if you want an autograph by Mr. Lee this is the best place to buy, see what's on offer, new autographs comes out all the time!.
Ask the seller all about the item, if its real he should have no worries about telling you how he got it and where, and look at his feedback, see if any one has had probems with the guy, make sure they was all happy with what he sold them.

star38 | Good advice for anyone seeking to buy autographs. I've found that if you have a question about autograph collecting in general to contact the UACC (Universal Autograph Collectors Club) www.uacc.org and ask just about anything...They also have a listing of UACC Registered Dealers that must adhear to very strict guidelines in selling items. If you can, pick one or two of these dealers and stick with them...if you build a good relationship sometimes they'll help you out with stuff too.

Isabelle | You may want to do a "search" on the site here and read up on some of the discussions around that very topic.

not all autographs :-)
Topps is a big company , which got the approval of the film makers and actors for the cards. And for the autographed cards themselves , now when they first started I went to the topps site, there was a forum there asking the same question did the actors/ses really autographed all this cards
The answer was YES.
In addition I when to the Ian.M site were some one asked the same thing sir ian.M answered personally that he did autograph every single card , when I first came to this fun club this was one of my first questions , as I have fond one of CL autographed cards , and just could not believe it¡¦s real , I got the same answer here they are real , authentic.
Now if for some reason some one were to prove that even 1 of the authentic autograph cards that topps did is not the real thing that¡¦s the end of topps

I think I remember Juan saying that Mr. Lee signed 500 cards,
But that may of changed by now, there seems to be a lot more then that floating around.
May be that was the James bond ones.
Alfonso right we did have this discussions some time ago.
You will need to go back in the post to find it.

Thank you for your answers!
I somehow can`t imagine that it is so easy to fake cards, even with a very good computer. You would have to take the exact same glossy paper Topps uses and so on. This goes beyond my computer skills, so perhaps I just don`t know :-)... In addition to that it is IMO more dangerous to buy a very expensive trading card like the "Fellowship"-Merry than a Saruman. With the Merry card, I assume the risk of it being cheated is higher.
Topps really should think about putting holographs on their cards (like other companies already do), this would make many collectors feel more secure.

Its very easy, if you have the right suff, you can copy just about any think, you can even lift a autographed off a picture and put it on some thing else, I have seen it done, they did it on a TV show once, It was some thing about crime, and how easy they can make fakes. There can be a lot of money in autographeds when you see how much some items go for.
And even Juan once said that they are one of the easiest things to copy.

of the topps autograph cards to be fack , are on the extrimly rear cards that were fond wich had no autograph ( 1 in 1000 or more)
but thows seal for at list $500 , with out the autograph , so if anything some one might just take an autograph card and geet read of the autograph :-)
and , althow the CL autographs are expensive , i think that a forger will go to the more populer autographs like orlando bloom , or Merry ( wich for some reson is the rerest autograph - again)
"take an autograph off a picture and put it on some thing else " how on earth do thay do that ?
in an autograph wich is not a pre-prent est , you can actualy see it is not part of the pic' , like in the cards if you move the card a bit in the light you can see that the color changes a bit - as it shuld , thats one way of knewing the autograph was hand signed , and as the autograph itselfe is not slagish est' that another way to tell that it is not a mashin ....but if its a secrutery = human beeing , thats only CL knews and he seys he autographed them all , as do topps ....but then we can ask how do we knew that the autograph here are real ....well we dont , to be 100% sure you have to see CL ( or any one ales) sign
still i belive that baying from here aswell as baying ( or finding) a topps autograph is more close to the 100% sure then to go to e-bay and just bet on the first 8x10 you see :-)

The best bet for getting a signed Topps card is to find one in a pack from a retail store, not to go on ebay at all.
I think about three or four people on this site have found signed ones from Mr. Lee that way.
