He's not that old. I believe if you look in the appendices of Lord of the Rings, or in the Silmarillion, it dates the year in which Wizards first came from the west. I don't believe you can date Gandalf 100%. Remember he was a Maiar from Valinor, he may have very well existed for thousands of years before he came to Middle Earth. I do believe he lived on Middle Earth for 1500+ years.
