Old Soul is an unknown quantity at this point
I noticed when Gandalf came back to life, and became Gandalf the White, he was so much harder then the gentle, wise man he was before.

Has anyone else noticed that?

Dyeing and coming back to life dose that to you?

Any thoughts about this?

I never thought about that, but you are right. He became a lot more serious then Gandalf the Grey. He joked around in Fellowship of the Ring, but I don't remember him kidding around in TTT.

That might be the case, but also, if you think about it...in Two Towers things were a lot more dire. Everythnig was going down and it was going down NOW.

Another thing, when he came back, it seemed like he didn't have all of his memory either..he had to really think about the name "Gandalf" and then he remembered it. Could it be that he needs a bit of time to 'remember' his personality?

I remember him saying that he knew he had some mission to complete that is why he came back.

I do miss the old Gandalf and his gentle ways,.

But you also are right that TT was direr and he needed to be focus on overthrowing the evil infesting middle earth.

Brandon Jones is on a distinguished road
Gandalf returns in might and power, as head of the Istari and it should have been. Years of hardship on Middle Earth, and the fact that he truly had no master, allowed him much more "room to breathe." When he returned as Gandalf the White, he had passed through much. He literally died. He was given a second chance at life by the Vala to return to combat Sauron. He returned more powerful, replacing Saruman. And part of the old Gandalf was still there...remember him winking at Aragorn when they tried to take his staff from him at Theoden's Hall?

remmber hi's an Istari, Dayeing is not like a human dayeing , in hi's case he defited the balrog and (astri like him but from a darker place ), and was " send back" then returnd to replace saruman.
I think the gandalf of FOTR knew this will hapen , he das not wont to go to Moria , but i dont think he knew , for sure, he'l return,
as for he's seriusnes , dont worry , not only das he still have he's old selfe , you'l see it more ( hopfully) in the next movie , But it is defenatly more in the books:p

Eh, that's part of the reason I'm always so sad at the part when he falls into that abyss with the Balrog, I always miss his old grey self, the one that made fireworks and smoked pipe with his friends... he is a lot more down to earth as Gandalf the Grey, I've always thought Gandalf the White is a so much more saintly character, not as human anymore, more like this angelic saviour...
but the character change is of course an important part in the story and I wouldn't have it missing.
