One of my favourite anthology movies ( The House That Dripped Blood ) is finally coming to DVD this year . It's a film with a great sense of fun and style . It also features Christopher Lee in a chilling little tale that's easily the best of the bunch .
With this in mind I thought it would be interesting to find out what everyone's favourite anthology movies are ,....... here's my top 5 and , funnily enough , two of them star Mr Lee .

1 Dr. Terrors House Of Horrors

2 Tales From The Crypt

3 From Beyond The Grave

4 The House That Dripped Blood

5 Dead Of Night

For some reason, Dr. Terror's House of Horrors has never ranked particularly high with me. I understand it's coming (eventually) to DVD, so perhaps when I at last get to see it in its proper aspect ratio it'll be a help.

My favorite anthologies are currently:

1) The House that Dripped Blood

2) Tales from the Crypt

3) Tales from the Crypt 2 (Vault of Horror)

4) From Beyond the Grave

5) Creepshow

I know Creepshow is a bit off the beaten path, but I love it.

I liked Dr. Terror's House of Horrors, though the Lee segment was the only one that really stuck with me. For one thing, Lee acted like he was actually scared of the thing haunting him (which is more than you could say for the folks in the killer-kudzu segment!).

Dead of Night is a little gem and has an unusually strong framing story for this genre.

Tales from the Crypt and Vault of Horror had their moments.

I seem to remember liking Asylum and The House that Dripped Blood but it's been way too long since I've seen either.

Any opinions on American-made anthologies like Tales of Terror (AIP Poe-film with Vincent Price) or Creepshow?

Oh yeah, Asylum...I completely forgot about that one!

In that case, strike Creepshow off the list and replace it.

Tales of Terror I have on DVD but have only watched once. I must confess I don't remember it well.

Getting slightly off topic, one late night, channel surfing, I came across something on AMC (pre-sellout AMC, that is) that I'd love to get my hands on someday. It was a Vincent Price one-man performance of four, as I recall, Poe tales. He was magnificent, of course. "The Tell-Tale Heart" was where I came in.

Has anyone seen this?

Dead of Night I'm not familiar with at all. Was this released in America under a different title?

Dead of Night was the first British horror anthology film, though it's actually preceded by an American anthology called Flesh and Fantasy (if anyone's seen this I'd love to hear what they thought).

Dead of Night has no alternate titles that I (or the IMDb) know of, though there's a 1977 anthology by that name as well, produced by Dan Curtis (Dark Shadows) and written by Richard Matheson (many old Twilight Zones, Legend of Hell House). I have no idea if it's any good.

Curtis and Matheson also did the TV-movie anthology Trilogy of Terror, which seems to have left a vivid and lasting impression on quite a few viewers around my age...

Oh, dear me, yes! While I can't recall much of the other stories, that Zuni Fetish Doll sequence will stay with me for the rest of my days. I recall that when I first saw it on its original airing back in '75 I found it to be one of the scariest things that I had ever seen (I was nine years old at the time). That final shot of Karen Black's character waiting for her mother to visit was creepy as all hell. Mind you, the thought of tiny, lethal, nasties running about under couches, tables, beds and things is pretty powerful in the fear department. A sequel was made a few years ago with Lysette Antony, and it made zero impression on me, although the doll did return.

Cheers!

Without a doubt, the Karen Black segment of Trilogy of Terror is one of the most effectively terrifying moments in horror history...particularly if you happen to be a kid. I would've been 13 when it first aired in '75, and a "lasting impression" is definitely what it made on me, all my friends, and just about everyone I've ever discussed it with. Great little film.

Hmmm...I'll have to look for Dead of Night. Who's in it?

Most of the cast names aren't familiar to American me, apart from Michael Redgrave and Miles Malleson.

Dave, just a small quibble, but all the segments of Trilogy of Terror featured Karen Black. She played a different character in each piece. The only other segment I can even vaguely recall had something or other to do with a photographer, or at least a darkroom. Just goes to show how the Zuni Fetish Doll overpowered every other part.

Cheers!

The original Trilogy Of Terror was terrific . The remake was fun but no more even though the stories were almost scene for scene remakes and ( like the original ) all featured the same actress , Lysette Anthony instead of Karen Black .

Right, right...I totally forgot. I actually own this film, too! As you said, it really shows just how much the Zuni segment overshadows everything else. The remainder of the film is entirely forgettable.

I recently bought Creepshow on dvd does has anyone hear of a
special edition of it coming out? the store i got it at Sam's club sold it for like $5 which is a good price i agree but when they sell
movies like that most of the times it means they want to get rid of
them cause special editions are soon to come out. most of the time this happens not every time i don't think.
