DVD Review has news that both Musketeers movies are going to be released together on Feb. 4. It looks like it will have a lot of cool extras. Here is a link to the story. Enjoy! http://www.dvdreview.com/html/news.html |

The fact that it is an Anchorbay release is fantastic. They always do a great job.:)

Since I'm getting a DVD player for Christmas, I'll certainly make plans to pick this up...

I am so looking forward to this dvd release. It's been awhile since I rented both of these films on VHS and the quality was pretty bad since the copies had been viewed quite a few times. It'll be great to see these movies again in good quality. :1roll:

These are far and away the finest versions of the Dumas tale ever filmed. It's definitely about time they received the video treatment they deserve.

I've been waiting for this DVD release since first hearing of it a few months back. The Three and Four Musketeeers rank very high on my list of favourite films, and not just Christopher Lee films either. Nothing quite beats the incredible dialogue in a script that features the clever work of George MacDonald Fraser (read his Flashman books, you won't regret doing so!).
When I first saw these wonderful films on their original theatrical release, as a kid in the early seventies, I went about for weeks afterwards thinking that Oliver Reed was just about the coolest actor I'd ever seen. Mind you, it was the dry villainy of Christopher Lee as the Comte de Rochfort that imbedded itself on my impressionable young mind for far longer. Hell, the film, and more notably Mr. Lee's performance, stuck with me so long that a couple years ago I even took up fencing for a short while. Tall, dark, mysterious, but with a streak of nobility a mile wide, not to mention a wonderful knack for pulling the most from a throwaway line, Mr. Lee was superb. To this day, the line "Away with you bumpkin" still brings a chuckle to me. Can't wait to see these in a decent DVD release!
Roll on February 4th!

I didn't know that they were releasing those on dvd again i didn't
even know they were out of print. but yes i agree anchor bay is the best. after the wicker man set they put out last year i can't wait to find out what they have in store for us for the musketeers movies. an even better is it comes out on my moms b-day! anywys any word on the return coming on dvd anytime soon? i borrowed from a friend of mine just haven't watched it as of yet.
i liked what C.Lee said in his book about it by the time that they made the return of the musketeers i believe in 1988. everyone was an old man by that time an were very sore from all the sword fighting and that's how he felt when they filmed the great movies in the early 70's! which is why it makes it so funny!:D

Rep Power: 0 | The company that owns Anchor Bay is about 2 miles from where I work. You'd think that one of these days I'd go over there and see if they have anything that's open to the public. I doubt it, but you never know.
hehe, having grown up about 1/8 of a mile from Anchor Bay (the actual body of water), it cracks me up everytime I see that name. It always seems like it should be my high school drama club or something.

Well I just picked up this dvd yesterday, I haven't been able to check out all the features and the movie but it looks incredible. The 2 disc set cost 34 dollars here in Canada, but the case and all the extras are well done. The movie transfer is really well done. Since all I can remember are the really bad vhs versions of this movie. Anyways I'll report more once I viewed more.

Ordered the Anchor Bay Musketeer package a while back from C & L in Vancouver, and I thought it to be not too bad. Video quality seemed much improved over the previous individual Lorimar DVD releases. The extras are good fun. My only real quibble was that the audio could have been handled a bit better. Still, this Anchor Bay package is likely the best treatment that these films will ever get, so well worth having...even at $34 CAD!
Cheers!
