Received an alert from Amazon today informing me of the impending release of a new DVD called "Horror Rises from the Grave."
It's a collection of 4 movies, one of which is entitled Night of the Ghoul.
The collection supposedly stars Peter Cushing, with John Hurt listed as well. I have to assume this Night of the Ghoul is the American title for The Ghoul, starring Hurt and Mr. Cushing...anyone know for sure? If so, I'll definitely pick it up. Been wanting a decent copy of this film for years. There are three other movies in the set, none of which I'm familiar with.
I'm sending up a copy of the box art if anyone cares to check it out.
Thanks!

Dave;
Night of the Ghoul would have to be a retitled edition of Tyburn's THE GHOUL, as I'm unaware of any other picture they did together.
HORROR RISES FROM THE GRAVE is a Paul Naschy film if I'm not mistaken.
The others are new to me.

Though I've not seen it; a review of HORROR RISES FROM THE TOMB can be found here: http://pages.cthome.net/puppylove/horrorrises.html
Hope it helps.
Though I loved the performances of Cushing and Hurt, I found THE GHOUL, otherwise, fairly run-o-the-mill.

I have never known THE GHOUL to be titled as "Night of the Ghoul". Likewise, I was surprised to find the recent Carlton DVD set to contain "Monster" when most people like myself prefer the title "I Don't Want to be Born"

horror rises from the tomb is a pretty good Naschy film. If you are familiar with his work and know what your getting into you will probally like it. I believe it was one of his most successful films and started the spanish Horror genre. I will be picking this DVD up

| Same here. Although, I do consider THE GHOUL to be, along with SHOCK WAVES, one of my favorites of Mr. Cushing's later films.

Dave;
Turns out Zombie Flesh Eaters (one of the four films on that DVD collection) is simply a retitled release of Lucio Fulci's 1979 film ZOMBIE. Released in Italy that years as ZOMBI 2 to ride the coat tail of Romero's DAWN OF THE DEAD (released in Italy as ZOMBIE). Pretty gory.
For those interested; a review:
http:/hem.passagen.se/thrill/eng/revr-z/engzombieflesheaters/engzombieflesheaters.html
There are two video/dvd sequels ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS 2 & 3; but whether or not they're actual sequels is anyone's guess.
Have yet to find anything to convince me NIGHT OF THE GHOUL is anything other than Tyburn's THE GHOUL.

Once again, thanks. It must be. As has been noted, it's the only film Mr. Cushing and John Hurt made together.
I'll have to order this DVD. I have The Ghoul on tape and VCD, but the quality sucks on both. Grainy as hell.
This collection sounds like a bargain, too...it's retailing for only $10!

I'd definitely pay $10 for it!
Like you, my copy of THE GHOUL is quite poor.
Naschy films, despite their sometimes shaking quality are so few and far between in the States you almost can't pass them up.
Besides, if I remember correctly, Fulci's ZOMBI was quite a history making film for it's time - as far as Italian horror cinema went. I remember the trailers for it twenty years ago; but never saw the film.

| Even though I know people who swear by him, I've never seen a Fulci film.

| You haven't missed all that much Alfonso . I've seen all of his movies and they range from the incomprehensible to the downright offensive . It's a shame really as he has a genuine flair for horror set pieces and atmosphere but he usually spoils it with over the top gore and female degredation .
I'm sure if he reined himself in he could make a very good horror film but excess seems to be his thing.....( off topic , I know , but I thought I'd give my view )

its a definite bargain no doubt about it. I have awful vhs version of HRFTT and its one of Naschys best. Fulcis Zombie is also a very good movie ... there are some other films like this format also availible from the same site. One with all wolfman films and a devil collection that includes Horror Hotel
