There´s something that I find most illogical in the the Star Wars saga, and that is the selection of the Queen of Naboo. We all know that Padmé Amidala (then know as Queen Amidala) was the first queen of Naboo, and she ruled for two four-year terms, and them she was replaced by the current queen of Naboo, Jamilla. Why is that anyway? I mean, I thought that a king or queen ruled until he or she died, and this is not the situation on Naboo. I find that most disturbing. Is there any books or something that explains why that is?

Obviously, what you have there on Naboo is some kind of elective Presidential system. Not a hereditary monarchy at all. I think the term "Queen" was just used to give it all a fairy tale ambience. The again, GL always played fast and loose with 'political' concepts. One would think that all these queens, princesses, and order of knighthood would be more at home under the Empire than the Republic. In fact, the first task of any republic would be to abolish them.

But, hey, it's just a movie, not a treatise on political science.

Mr. Lucas played fast and loose with all kinds of concepts. Didn't the M. Falcon make the "kessel run in less than 12 parsecs" or some such? It is just a movie.

One of the deleted scenes on the Attack of the Clones DVD shows Anakin & Padme talking about politics, and she mentions the term limits of being Queen. I don't remember exactly what she said, but her term was up.

There's nothing strange with that if you know what the Kessel Run is. ;)
