Does anyone have any new info on AOTC being released in IMAX theaters??? I had heard that it was going to be released outside the US first and then make its way to US theaters.
I know Apollo 13 will be the first feature film shown on IMAX screens in September, but I would love to see Episode 2(actually all the SW movies), on the big, big screen!

Oh my stars, there is an I-MAX theatre near me! This is indeed startling but welcome news. Thanks for sharing it and PLEASE someone who knows about this clue us in if you have any details!
The I-Max theater in Charlotte is very nice and a visual treat. It is at Discovery Place, which is a Scientific Exhibit Hall and museum.
There were no theaters within 500 miles of here showing AOTC in digital format, but this might be better! Good things come to those who wait, they say.
Apollo 13 was a great film. Ron Howard really knocked me out with that one. I'll have to check and see if they are going to show it in Charlotte!

I haven't seen the digital AotC version, but I know that there are slight differences to the film version in it - look out for them if you see the digital presentation, Brother Dave.

I would love to see AOTC on an IMAX screen. The nearest one to me is two hours away, it would almost be worth the drive.
A lot of DVD reviewers are pumped about a digital movie being produced for DVD. They are expecting great things from the AOTC dvd. As am I. Of course my tv isn't quite as big as a IMAX screen.

Well, if it's anything as good as the double DVD set of Phantom Menace, then it will be good! This one should have superb picture quality!
I've already ordered my copy - I'm getting the widescreen version. How people can watch a pan 'n' scan SW DVD, I don't know! :P

I agree Jurious, Widescreen is the only way to go. But to tell you the truth for these movies only, I am also going to get the Pan and Scan versions of Ep. 1&2. The reason being is that I have a 32" tv and with all the little stuff George Lucas puts in the background I would like to see them closer up (unless of course it's been chopped to fit the screen:D ). The Arena battle had so much going on that I want to spend more time looking at the jedi's in the background. Since I can't afford a bigger tv I'll just dish out an extra 40+ bucks Canadian.

The biggest problem with the Star Wars movies when not in the Wide Screen format is that something always gets left out and sometimes confuses fans.
So many people complain about not seeing certain aliens in the Cantina or Jabba's Palace on the Pan and Scan version, but are clearly seen on the Wide Screen format. In A New Hope, when Luke is spying on the Sand People and he is looking through his binoculars, he says "I see one of them", you can only see the Tusken Raider on the Wide Screen version.
I do agree with Rob regarding the Arena Battle and even though I have seen the movie several times, it is hard to focus in with so much action happening. I would still recommend the WideScreen and if your DVD player has a Zoom button, use that to bring the action in closer!

I do have a zoom function on my dvd player, and have been trying to find George Lucas's face during the Queens battle on Naboo. Still haven't found it yet.
Qui-Gon-Jimm's comment reminded me of something. When I first saw The Empire Strikes Back it was on video (my older brother decided it would be better if he went to the movie with his friends rather then me, but I have forgiven him for that) and the one thing I never saw until I bought the widescreen verions of the trilogy was the scene where an asteroid hits the star destroyer and you see one of the two holograms fizzle out. The pan and scan version cut out the hologram that got fizzled out. Widescreen is definetly the way to go if you are only buying one dvd.

When Hasbro releases figures in their toy line, they always come up with certain aliens or creatures that can only be seen in the Wide Screen Format of the movies. I actually prefer the pan and scan because I do not have a big screen tv, but I feel like I am missing something if I do not watch the Wide version.

I've never seen the original trilogy in widescreen - I've only seen them on video, which explains why scenes - such as the one with Luke and his binoculars - often confused me a little! You forget that some of the picture isn't there! :P

It's amazing how divided we are over the widescreen or pan & scan debate. A friend of mine hates widescreen because, no matter how much I try to convince her otherwise, she feels she is being cheated of space with the bars onscreen. I can't seem to get her to understand that she is cheating herself out of the full screen experience.
I tolerate P&S if I have to, but given a choice I go letterbox every time.
Turner Classic Movies cable network has a short feature that explains the difference in formats beautifully, but since it's play time is never announced I can never tape it to show my buddy.
Seeing the Star Destroyer at the beginning of EpIV is so unexciting in pan & scan for me. Some films are just meant to be widescreen.

For years I only had the P&S version of A New Hope, but I remembered in the movie theater seeing a Tusken Raider through Luke's Binoculars. Years later when the Wide Screen format was released, I couldn't belive what I had been missing out on. In Jabba's Palace and on the Sail Barge, a lot of the creatures are cut out in the scenes.
I have only been buying Wide Screen ever since. AOTC had so much going on, the Wide Screen will help see all the extra stuff going on in the background.

My mum hates widescreen for the black-bars, too - but since growing up as an individual, i've chosen to go with widescreen presentation when ever possible to get the ultimate experience, and so not to cut off any of the picture - it's almost sabotage to the film-makers to cut off some of their work! ;) Films like Star Wars are meant for the big screen, but should be viwed on the small screen in widescreen, without a doubt.

IMAX Clones Deal Fails
Thu, Sep 05, 02 12:05:01 AM EDT
In a recent Ask TFN readers have been asking us what happened to the IMAX Attack of the Clones. We think we've managed to track down the answer from Elizabeth:
Despite work on Lucasfilm's end on Attack of the Clones, don't expect it to arrive at all. The person I spoke with said that the IMAX Clones deal fell through and there would be no IMAX Clones.

The Official Star Wars Website has announced that Attack of the Clones will be coming to IMAX in November! http://www.starwars.com/episode-ii/news/20...ws20020909.html
Episode II Coming to IMAX Theaters
September 09, 2002
Size Matters Not -- Except on an IMAX Screen
This holiday season, Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones will be bigger than ever. Lucasfilm Ltd., The IMAX Corporation and Twentieth Century Fox have announced that Episode II will be coming to IMAX theaters in the United States and Canada starting November 1, 2002.
This is not just the projection of the standard theatrical print on an IMAX screen -- the movie will undergo the revolutionary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) process, which enhances the quality of the image and soundtrack to the huge IMAX 15/70 format. This marks the first time IMAX DMR has been used to re-master a film that was digitally captured and created.
"Star Wars: Episode II The IMAX Experience will provide an entirely new way to experience the Star Wars universe," says Jim Ward, Vice President of Marketing for Lucasfilm. "For the first time, fans of Star Wars will be able to see all their favorite characters, environments, vehicles and droids in a setting that is up to eight stories high and over a hundred feet wide."
"The combination of Lucasfilm's innovative digital technology and the revolutionary, proprietary IMAX DMR technology will deliver the clear, crisp and sharp images and sound that IMAX theater-goers have grown to expect," says Richard L. Gelfond and Bradley J. Wechsler, Co-Chairmen and Co-CEOs for IMAX Corporation.
"You can't find a movie better suited for the IMAX format," adds Bruce Snyder, President, Domestic Distribution, Fox. "We are thrilled to bring this giant of a film to the giant IMAX screen."
Keep checking starwars.com in the coming weeks for more information about the IMAX release of Episode II.
