I was unaware that Oliver Reed had been in a film with CL until just recently (Treasure Island). I especially liked Oliver Reed in his role in The Curse Of The Werewolf. I thought he did a wonderful job in his last role before he died, as the old gladiator in the movie Gladiator. I was wondering if Mr. Lee knew him very well and what he thought of Oliver Reed as an actor. I have to say my initial interest in Oliver Reed was when I was probably a teenager and first saw him in the werewolf role - I thought he was cute...LOL. What goofy crushes I developed when I was young!!!

CL and Oliver Reed were also in the Three and Four Musketeers, Return of the Musketeers, The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll, The Pirates of Blood River and Beat Girl together .

I seem to remember reading an article or watching an interview somewhere which stated Christopher Lee used to give Oliver Reed a lift in his car on the way to Bray studios long ago . Sorry if that's a bit vague but i can't remember where I saw it .

It was a sad day for the movie world when Oliver Reed died.
I have quite a lot of his films and will certainly never forget such a great actor.
Shame that nowadays it doesn't seem to be too important if these modern so-called actors can actually act or not.

Although it has been a while since I've seen it, I seem to think the reference appears in Mr. Lee's episode of This Is Your Life. Likely it has appeared elsewhere too, but that seems to stick in my mind as a likely source.

Cheers!

I haven't seen the particular "This Is Your Life" with CL, but I would certainly like to. How nice it was of Mr. Lee to give Oliver Reed a lift whe he needed it, being that they weren't exactly "close" friends. Mr. Lee has obviously been many different things to many different people - above all he seems to be a true gentleman, and that's a vanishing quality!!

Charles , your correct the story was originally told on This Is Your Life . I have'nt seen the episode but learned of it from Mr Lees interview with Wayne Kinsey in issue 16 of his excellent The House That Hammer Built magazine .It's a special edition devoted to Christopher Lee and containing a very informative interview .
WK.. Is it true you used to give Oliver Reed and Denis Shaw a lift to the studios whilst making " The Pirates Of Blood River" ?
CL..Yes I used to give them a lift everyday. Oliver sat in the back seat thin , nervous and worried ,muttering about leaving the industry and how he was'nt cut out to be an actor .

Then Mr Lee goes on to explain about This Is Your Life and how Oliver related the story and joked that he had been charged for petrol ( which , of course , was not the case )

ps , you've no idea how many magazines I went through before finding the above info, I must get them indexed .

I think Christopher Lee was moonlighting as a chauffeur in his grand car in those days. He earned extra cash driving the other actors around in style! The past president of the Christopher Lee fan club was probably the last passenger, and that was an honorary trip! See also, Christina's photographs of Oliver Reed biting her arm to pay her back for biting him as a child! :D She's lucky he didn't try to marry her, given his fondness for young ladies! :1devil:
