I've had a ball all afternoon, watching DVD's of "Scars of Dracula" and "Dracula, Prince of Darkness" It was so much fun to see the extras on these DVD's, like the music videos and "The Many Faces of Christopher Lee". Then I would go back and watch the movies again with the commentary in the background, and it was so clear how much friendship there is between the actors and actresses. It's been a really fantastic afternoon for me! Okay, so the laundry didn't get done...this was more important for now. :1roll:
The video called, "She'll Fall for Me" was simply adorable! For those of you who haven't seen this DVD, it's a must! I can't wait to get the other movies I like on DVD, not only for the movies but for the extras they include. I have to see "The Wicker Man" now, and I want to get the DVD of "I, Monster" because I loved the movie and I haven't seen it in years. Also, "The Devil Rides Out" is one I recall watching at some point, but have to refresh my memory.
What a wonderful and varied career you have, Mr. Lee. After watching "The Many Faces..." I feel like we sat and had a pleasant conversation this afternoon, so I feel I should call you Chris, but won't since you don't know me from Eve. I also adored your mention of Vincent Price and Peter Cushing. What talented people and sweet human beings! I wish I could have known them.
Just wanted to share my great afternoon with all of you....
Cara

Sounds like fun!
I recently had a miniature "Christopher Lee marathon" of my own, about five days ago, this past Friday.
I watched three of his movies in a row, and I had a blast! I saw The Man With the Golden Gun, followed by Horror of Dracula, followed by The Devil Rides Out. All of them spectacular, of course. I went to bed with my head swimming from all the coolness.
Also, over the weekend, I got my girlfriend to watch The Wicker Man for the first time because she hasn't seen it before. She loved it, which is not at all surprising.
I don't have any of Mr. Lee's movies on DVD, but I have a few on VHS tape. I'd like to get the DVD versions, but I'm not sure where to start. Its hard for me to spend money on a movie I already own. Even if it does come with extra features or commentary.

I know what you mean. I have three CL movies on tape, but I want the DVD's. It is hard to rebuy them, though. But the commentary from CL is so much fun, especially if he's with some of his costars, that I feel it's worth it. You get inside stories and they are all so funny! And the quality of the picture is so much better. One day I'd like to get a big screen TV with a really great sound system and a DVD player (when I have about 5000 bucks I don't need for anything, hahaha) and so I consider buying the DVD's a step toward that. A VERY small step...

Has the Man with the Golden Gun been released on DVD? I can't find it anywhere. I just purchase the Manchurian Candidate the other day. Too bad Mr. Lee wasn't in that movie. It's classic.

Hi, SarumanRules...
...YES, TMWTGG has been released on DVD, but it's now OOP and very hard to find. I happen to run a video store, and can get a sealed, factory-fresh one for you. There's something amiss with my mailbox here (it's telling people it's full when it isn't), so I'll PM you with more info, if you like. It's a _wonderful_ DVD!
Cara, I'm afraid "I, Monster" is not available on DVD. No word on when it will be. I just received it today on VHS, and plan on watching it tonight. Haven't seen it since the 70s!! :)

It's classic. | It sure has. A long time ago, in fact. But I've been noticing that I can't find any Bond-DVDs anywhere nowadays. I get the feeling that there's some marketing thing going on.
Charles would know the answer. Charles! Oh, Charles! We need you here!

Like I said, Alfonso, they're OOP (out-of-print). I have several still available, however, including TMWTGG.

Yes,The Man With the Golden Gun was released in DVD,and luckily I found it here,in Finland, and bought it straight away. This DVD is one of the bestest DVDs that I have ever bought. There is so many extras in it,like the documentary,"The Making of the Man with the Golden Gun",still gallery (I believe that there has to be almost hundred stills from the movie itself and behind-the-scenes stills as well),trailers and the commentary,of course.
And the picture quality is very good indeed. This DVD was re-leased two years ago,and may not be so easy to found, but if you find this DVD somewhere it is really a worth to buy!

The Man With The Golden Gun , like every other Bond film , is readily available in Britain . It is easy to find in high street stores so, if anyone has a multi region DVD player (remember the UK uses region 2 ) contact any UK based company for a copy .Then sit back and enjoy.

Yup, I believe it is a marketing thing. As far as I know The Man With The Golden Gun along with the rest of the Bond DVD titles in Reg 1 are currently out of print, but will likely be re-released with the arrival of the new Bond flick - Die Another Day - this coming November. You can of course still find old stock in various shops, but that is about it, I think. I'll check this out further with a Bond-fan buddy of mine when I get the chance.
Cheers!

Those of you in the States that have a Best Buy nearby are in luck. Both their online store and many of the local stores still have the Bond DVDs. I know the ones around me do. Also eBay lists most to all on a daily basis. I would check Best Buy first tho. I have noticed that the boxed sets, all 3 of them, are still sitting on store shelves around here altho they are a tad pricey.

Checked with my Bond-fan buddy and he assures me that the Reg 1 Bond DVD's are definitely on moratorium, but as I noted, and Joe has reiterated, old stock is pretty common if you look around. As far as I'm concerned the Bond DVD's are a perfect example of how to make the most of the medium. Fantastic menus and loaded with extras! Then again, what would you expect for the most enduring film series in cinema history; which incidentally, celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Hard to believe it was forty years ago that Sean Connery first hit the silver screen as James Bond.
With his relation to Ian Fleming and his role as Francisco Scaramanga, Mr. Lee is definitely an interesting figure in the Bond legacy. Still can't help but wonder what Mr. Lee would have made of the part of Dr. No in that first film. Seeing him play off of Connery would have made for rivetting viewing. Ah, another 'what if' that is but a 'never was' although that doesn't stop it from being a particularly wistful... 'if only'.
Cheers!

Yes the DVD's are without question the closest most of us will get to spending an evening with Christopher Lee. I actually bought the laserdisc of Prince of Darkness with all the same extras as the DVD some time ago, and was positively thrilled with it. It truly is like sitting in a theater with Mr. Lee and the other cast and hearing them comment about this and that, you sure have to love technology sometimes! I too highly regard the Scars of Dracula bonus disc, The Many Faces of Christopher Lee, what a delight to have him for a nice long chat about his career with interesting props and things he shows.
As for the music video "She'll Fall For Me" it was almost surreal to see Mr. Lee participating in this fun rollicking video, with a good song to boot. I hope there is more of this fun stuff to come in the future, maybe a nice little package with a future release of Horror of Dracula? My only regret is that Peter Cushing wont be able to sit in on commentaries of his films with Christopher, it would be wonderful to hear the two of them together candidly like that, we might have even been treated to their impressions of Tweety and Sylvester, *sigh*

Rep Power: 0 | Scars of Dracula is the best DVD I have ever bought. Great extras and I can watch the music videos more than ones. What I like most about The Many Faces of Christopher Lee is that it is Mr Lee himself talking about his life and career. It's not an interviewer saying:
-"Hi and welcome to this exclusive interview with Christopher Lee". Not that there's anything wrong with that kind of interviews but this documentary is better whitout it. Buy it anyway if you don't have a DVD player.:)

Is Scars of Dracula a region 1 DVD? (if this has already been posted, I apologise for missing the details) And does anyone know if any of the other Dracula flicks, besides Prince of Darkness, are due for DVD release any time soon?
Thanx everyone :)
