Wouldn't that be just awesome to own on cd. Has Mr. Lee done any books on tape? It would be nice if he put his autobiography on tape so we could hear him recount his own past.

He did Valley of Fear - a Sherlock Holmes tale. I haven't heard it yet. I've been trying to get it from the library for a long time. Somebody's hogging it.

That would be something I would gladly pay for. His voice reading that story....spectacular.

Maybe if he thought there would be enough interest in such an undertaking he would do it. A special edition with Mr. Lee reading the stories would probably sell quite well with all the excitement surrounding the movies.

I would love to hear a reading of LOTR from Mr. Lee. Especially, I would love to hear his pronounciation of Quenya and Sindarin passages. That would be a REAL treat.

Yes, I would love to hear this done. I have him reading Edgar Allan Poe and many nights I fell asleep with the little earphones on my ears. Very soothing...even if it WAS Edgar Allan Poe!

Re: Mr. Lee reading the LOTR series.

When I heard that Mr. Lee would read LOTR every year, I also thoght how great it would be to have him read them for a book on tape. That is really the reason I joined this website. There is currently only one unabridged audio book of LOTR, and although I have not heard it, I can not imagine that anyone would do a better job of narrating it than Mr. Lee. Just a straight read- no sound effects, and definitely unabridged would be ideal.

Seems to me that this would be something he might like to do, considering his obvious enjoyment and respect for the books.

Cheers,
Hudson

Who wouldn't want to listen to his deep soothing voice for hours and hours. I'd give that man a simple phone book to read out load to me just so I can hear his voice lol.

Yes, his voice is incomparable. I attended the bride corpse yesterday only in the original to hear Mr. Lee's voice. Singing is also wonderful. Strong voice...
Also, I find very good to see comments and documentaries, because to see Mr. Lee speak to characters out it is also incredible. He uses the voice in a very expressive way.

Re: Mr. Lee reading the LOTR series.

Yes, that is why he was such a great choice for Saruman; - quoting from the book:

"Suddenly another voice [Saruman's] spoke, low and melodious, its very sound an enchantment. Those who listened unwarily to that voice ... remembered only that it was a delight to hear the voice speaking, all that it said seemed wise and reasonable, and the desire awoke in them by swift agreement to seem wise themselves."

I wish they had used him more in the LOTR's movies.

I am a singer myself, and have written some musical compositions and when I learnt that Mr. Lee liked to sing, I was rather inspired :) Strong and dramatic. Quite a power in his voice.

I have never read the books because I havent been able to find them here and I have looked. I may have to order them. I love that quote from the book, it's sounds delightful :) And I do agree, really wish they used Saruman more in the movies.

Re: Mr. Lee reading the LOTR series.

Mr. Lee indeed is very fond of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and one of the few to have been granted the honor of having met Mr. Tolkien.

I don't want to let the poor man read through all three books though; it would be a killer for his throat :P

Just kidding, I know he can take pauses :P

Mr. Lee seems (from his voice and manner of doing and acting) he'd be a good story teller so indeed it would be a very wicked thing if it'd be done!

Just make sure he drinks tea with honey while doing so :snigger:
