Will Dooku redeem himself, though? Or will he remain a badden till the end?

Will Dooku turn on Sidious, and want to be top-dog, or will Sidious, wanting Anakin for his apprentice now the time is right, turn on Dooku? Or neither...

There's alot to be answered in Ep.3 - and I can't wait! :D

Here's my take on Dooku.

He was a powerful Jedi. Trained Qui-Gon, who in turn trained Obi-Wan, and we all know that Obi-Wan is a powerhouse of Jedi-ness. A hero.

BUT, it seems that Dooku sensed the weakening of the Jedi order, and the corruption in the Republic. He became disillusioned, and lost faith in the tradional ways of the Order.

Seeking an alternative way of thinking, and a means with which to do away with the problems that he saw, he left, and was lured to the powers of the dark side of the force. Needing a new apprentice Sidious takes him in, and teaches him some of the dark side disciplines. (AKA Force lighting, deceitfulness, the ability to beat people up with his mind, or objects that he tears out of a particular wall).

Once the two have aligned, they form a plan. The Win / Win scenario of the Seperatists, and the Republic that has been talked about here before, and things are set in motion.

However, I think that at some point Dooku is torn, and confused. He is caught between the idea of wiping away the corruption that he sees in the Jedi / Republic, and the knowledge that he has become an agent of the Dark Lord which could ultimately prove to be playing with fire, and a great evil in and of itself.

Again, looking to do the right thing he reaches out to Obi-Wan, whom he feels a connection through Qui-Gon. We all know that Dooku's restlessness, and rebellious ways have trickled down through Qui-Gon, and into the training of Obi-Wan. Even Yoda has sensed this.

When he tells Obi-Wan about the Dark Lord of the Sith, I think he kind of hopes that Obi-Wan WILL join him, and maybe help him not only defeat the evil of the Sith, but confront the corruption of the Republic, and the Jedi.

He is caught in a wicked situation, and is desperatly trying to bring everything back into order.

That's just how I see the situation. I guess we'll see in EP III - Huh...

That's a wonderful explanation, DeRichleau1138! I think alot of people are beginning to think similar about Dooku!

There has been some vague speculation that Dooku could turn out to be Kenobi's father, in a certain parallel to Episode 5, where Vader, asking Luke to join him, turns out to be Luke's father. It's only a very loose possibility, but it would be interesting to hear people's thoughts on that!

I really hope that isn't written into the plot-line. That would be so lame. Everyone turning out to be everyone else's long-lost father. Moreover, it would then appear that incest, fornication, and child abandonment seems to be OK in that part of the galaxy: No one knows who their real parents are; everyone is raised by deceitful foster parents; brothers develop unhealthy fascinations with their sisters; fathers disappear only to reappear decades later to mutilate their sons. . .

Aha! Wait a minute! I got it! Remember the old Star Trek episode where an entire civilization based on Gangland Chicago was created when a space traveller visiting a primitive planet accidentally left behind a book on the history of the the US 1920s? Well, imagine a space traveller who accidentally leaves behind a vhs ofJerry Springer Uncensored!. . . and then. . .:1devil:

I'm with Alfonso on this one--too much coincidence of everyone being someone's lost father just makes the whole story lose credibility with me. (did anyone see Mel Brook's "Spaceballs" where Dark Helmet reveals to Lone Star that he's his "uncle's cousin's best friend's roommate" or some silliness to that effect? This just reminded me of that for some reason!)

Oh and that Star Trek episode is "A Piece of the Action"--one of the funniest, best episodes ever! Love it!:)

I agree with Alfonso too. You don't want everybody related to everybody. Thats kinda why I'm glad the Anakin/Greedo scene never made it into the movie. It was a nice scene but I think it would have been a little much. Not every prequal character has to have a run in with sequal characters. I did love the way George tied Boba Fett with the clones. That made sense to me, the best bounty hunter would be used as a template for an army.

I see everyone's point - I guess it would ruin the effect of Vader being Luke's father in the later Episode 5. It wasn't something I thought of, but some person suggested the possibility due to the fact that Empire and Clones have so many parallels - I guess this one should be left out! :D
