It is really wonderful to see Christopher Lee in the new Star Wars film, he carries forward the banner of his late friend Peter Cushing.

I'm sure Grand Moff Tarkin would be very pleased.

I'm wondering if there has been any talk of having "young Tarkin" in the next film (played by an appropriately-aged actor), since we'll be headed in that direction anyway. Even though the Dynamic Duo won't be together physically it might be interesting if that connection to "A New Hope" were made before Lucas wraps things up.

Kay you are right. I'm also sure the relationship between Mr. Lee and Mr. Cushing is not lost on Mr. Lucas.

Juan's (admin) latest post suggests Count Dooku just may turn out to be someone's father. Perhaps Count Dooku's last name is Tarkin, and he has a son about 50 years old who is off on some adventure and who turns out to be Moff Tarkin. Read his post "Dooku Really a Villain?"

Stranger things have happened in the Star Wars universe but I admit that is a real longshot! :o

Tarkin was my favorite character in the original Star Wars. He was the film's true villain (the dude in the black plasic suit was just his sidekick.) My greatest disappointment in Episode I was that we didn't see a 'young' Tarkin. Now that AOTC has hit the screens and no Grand Moffs are to be seen, I fear the character has been written out of the mythology.

Actually, considering how the series has developed, it would take some explaining as to how/why Darth Vader was his subordinate. Just consider this line from Episode IV: Tarkin: "I'm taking a tremendous risk, Vader. This had better work." The implication being that if Vader failed, Tarkin would make sure the suited one's a** would be grass.

I immediately noticed the association of Lee and Cushing in the Star Wars films. It's hard to describe the pleasure a fan of both actors has in seeing this to someone who has no clue about either actor. I'm pleased to know I'm not the only neurotic fan of what most consider "corny" 70's movies. I, of course, do not feel that way - I'll trade all the CG's of today for some real talent displayed by both Cushing and Lee.

There was talk a few months back of approaching Ralph Fiennes for the role of "young" Tarkin. He does bear a certain facial structure with the late great Peter Cushing. Also, in the latest IMDB cast list for the next Star Wars film, Hugh Jackman is listed for an 'unknown' role. Perhaps he is to play the role?

In any case, it was fun to see a AOTC's puzzle at the local Target store the other day which featured both Lee and Cushing!
