I remember, late one night years ago, I propped my weary eyes open with toothpicks to watch an Italian movie called My Uncle was a Vampire. It was HILARIOUS. They gave CL these huge denture/fangs to wear and it gave him a big overbite. The plot made no sense, but it had the charm of a campy, overdubbed movie. CL's voice was really weird. I think it was his voice, but it's possible someone else's was used and dubbed over. I don't know, it's been a long time.

Does anyone know anything about this film? Somewhere I think I may still have it taped, if I didn't tape over it by now.

Hi, Cara...

..."Uncle Was a Vampire" is the exact title of this movie, and yes, so far as I know Mr. Lee dubbed his own voice. I could easily be wrong, so don't quote me. It's been years since I saw this, and only saw it once. AWFUL film, but Mr. Lee was just as cool as always. I remember thinking to myself when I saw this that Mr. Lee looked much like he did in "Dracula Has Risen from the Grave." Similar, anyway.

But LORD, what a rotten movie! :)

Yes, it was a pretty bad film. CL was completely believable in the role despite what he had to work with. It's the only time as Dracula I can recall him running like he did in that one scene when he was trying to get back to his coffin before the sun came up. I remember thinking, "Well, why did you spend all night laying in that shrub outside that girl's window??" HEHEHE!

I only watched the movie because of CL, and it has a charm all its own. Why would he need to dub his own voice, though?

I've got to find that and watch it again. He was still adorable in it.

The reason for the dubbing, Cara, was that the film is Italian, and was originally recorded in that language.

Again, I _believe_ he dubbed his own voice...I may be wrong.

I don't have that one on video (one of the very few); saw it on a late-night TV broadcast about ten years ago. Ever see "Dracula Pere et Fils," otherwise known as "Dracula Father & Son?"

Another rather bad vampire spoof, this one French, directed by the man who made "La Cage aux Folles."

Nope, never saw that one, either. Well, of course, DUH, they would have to dub his voice. I guess I was thinking he would speak English and they would have to dub it into Italian over there. But since he speaks Italian that would not have been a problem for him to do that and have it dubbed in English.

Sometimes you have to draw me a picture

I'd like to see it, and the one you're talking about. The campy ones are fun!

Uncle was a Vampire (Tempi duri per i vampiri, in the Italian original) was the film which gave to the world the immortal closing song. . .

"Dra-cu-la. Cha-cha-cha."

I thought that was what they were saying! I thought perhaps since I didn't speak Italian I was missing out on something they meant, but that's what it really was, huh?

I can't believe it....ehhehehee.

I recall seeing that movie, it must have been about 17 years ago when I was about 13. It was dubbed, and I couldn't believe that the man I had this huge crush on was doing this sort of movie. I was astounded and thought it was hilarious. Correct me if I'm wrong, but does the movie end with him smiling, turning around with two gals on either arm? Geez, what a memory to evoke. He's gotta have one hell of a sense of humor.

Yep. You got it. That scene must have made some kind of impression on me because I remember seeing this film only once, on TV, when I was five. Maybe even younger.

I'd like to find an subbed/undubbed copy of Dracula pere et fils since I've heard the American dub was appalling (Lee dubbed with a 3rd-rate Lugosi impersonator, another actor dubbed with a 2nd-rate Don Adams impersonator...)
