SarumanRules,
I agree with you about the lighting. The lighting throughout this entire film was quite artful and should easily win the technical Oscar. John Williams will be nominated again for the LOVE THEME.
Star Wars films have never been noted for exceptional dialog and this one is no exception. But anyone who ever went to a Star Wars film for dialog raise your hand please? Anyone, anyone? Hmmm.
I agree too that Mr. Lee's performance is the best in the film. Such power as his doesn't really need all those special effects to be effective. The invisible rays coming from Mr. Lee's eyes alone could have melted Yoda into a mass of latex goo. Such a look he gave him! I don't know why they had to use those lightning bolts. I suppose because the script called for it and because they already knew how to do it so it didn't cost a lot of money. This is some of Mr. Lee's very best work.
Mr. Lee made the film, he saved the series and has insured that generations still to come will know the power with which he has been gifted. How fortunate I have been to have lived at this particular time, so that I could follow most of Mr. Lee's career and this entire film series from the very beginning up until now.
I think that given the perspective of about five years, after Episode 3 opens and closes, critics and fans alike just might look back on AOTC as the best of the prequel series. They will also likely credit that fact to Mr. Lee.
As a true fan of "the Saga", I was extremely downhearted after seeing Phantom Menace. I thought the entire prequel concept was not only a questionable idea but a failure. AOTC has saved the prequel series and brought me back as a raging fan. After seeing AOTC Thursday night, I dragged out my PHANTOM MENACE VHS today and watched it again. I actually enjoyed it far more this time than ever before. Perhaps AOTC is the glue that will hold the prequel series together, and if so it has succeeded beyond Mr. Lucas's wildest dreams.
