No, he didn't go to highschool with me, I'm 33, what I mean is that Christopher Lee played a huge part in my life when I was in highschool. I remember poring over the TV Guide to see when the CL movies were playing, and then planning to stay up late that night with my best friend, Amy, and watch him. I had a terrible crush on British men at the time (all right, I still do, but don't tell my husband) and Christopher Lee embodied a great deal of the traits I swooned over. I also adore the Count Dracula legend and old Hammer films, so it all fit neatly together for me
After we watched the movies, my friend and I would tell each other stories we'd made up about CL as Dracula. Oh, they were, uhm, a little off the usual myths about vampires, but they were FUN! Finding this website was a surprise and delight, and I'm so glad that he continues to have success in his career.
I wish someone would please let him know for me that his age (while he may think so) doesn't diminish his attractiveness at all. He's still, frankly, adorable and very handsome. I appreciate his talents greatly. I invited CL to a party I gave in highschool in honor of Bela Lugosi's birthday, but it's just as well that he didn't come. I don't know if back in those days I could have controlled myself, and I know he is a married man. Of course, now, I'm so much more poised and mature, right? Sure...
Best wishes,
Cara

I too had a major crush on Christopher Lee as a girl. However, mine started in late elementary school and continued into my high school years! Many original members of this website know me and the story! He was very handsome and I will always credit him as being my first real love interest! He also set the stage for the type of man I would later find attractive! Tall, Dark and Handsome! He remains one of my favorite memories from girlhood! Too bad we didn't know each other as kids as we would have had a great time admiring him!

Yes, I'll admit it. I, too, was totally in love and in admiration for Christopher Lee as a young one. All of the other girls in school were mooning over the latest teen idol while I was "head over feet" for Christopher Lee. Of course, this was not easy for me, as some of the young girls would say "Christopher who??" but I never let that get in the way of my major school girl crush. What did they know, anyway?! Funny thing is, my boyfriend now is very tall, dark, and he's foreign! Well, he's Canadian, but to us Americans, that still counts as foreign! I definitely see Mr. Lee's influence in my choice.
It's absolutely true! Age has not diminshed his looks or capacity for charm. Age has only perfected that wonderful, handsome face, that glorious voice, that twinkle in his eye. I remember it as if it were yesterday. Those are great memories.
Ahhhh, youth!

Well, I knew I couldn't be alone in this!
Funny, I was looking for tall, dark and handsome most of my dating life, too, but I found my perfection in not-so-tallish, dark-blond and sweet instead! My husband doesn't look like CL in the least, but I dated some that did.
Fantasy and reality sometimes just don't work together well!
But that's okay, because I'm sure Mrs. Lee won't mind (seeing as she's had so many wonderful years with the "definite article") that I watch my old CL movies and dream a little. Just a tiny bit...
Cara
P.S. It would have been a blast getting together and drooling! I can just hear us now, "No! He's MINE!" HHAHAHA!

I was 10 when I was smitten. My infatuation continued into high school. When we got cable, I could watch all those old movies on WOR or WPIX. In college, I had a Dracula and His Vampire Bride (The Satanic Rites) poster hanging on my wall. Over the years I've acquired a silly habit of squealing his name when ever I see it in the credits. My 11-year-old daughter squeals it with me now. We did it together during AOTC.

This is amazing! We all would have had so much fun at a slumber party! We could have watched Christopher Lee films and swooned the whole................evening! By the way, I still have some of my old memorabilia from that time. I have my ViewMaster slides from RETURN FROM WITCH MOUNTAIN, and my movie magazine of 1941.

How funny this is! I do take comfort in knowing that we're all in the same camp, so to speak!
I was a bit embarrassed at first to admit it, but yes, I swooned, I was mesmerized, but I didn't have the poster on my wall. I still kind of "squeal" his name too, when I see him -- even now! My boyfriend thinks it's cute and says he can actually see the appeal he would have to women. I'm very lucky! Whenever we both see CL make his grand entrance in a movie, my boyfriend will stop, look at me, and then say "There he is. There's your guy."
Yep, there's our guy!

Thank goodness somebody started this thread. I'm glad to see that I wasn't the only high school girl to have the raging chemicals over Mr. Lee. I graduated in 1978, right in the middle of the television horror movie heyday, and my VCR worked overtime to tape those late night CL movie fixes. There is nothing an icky teen idol has going, then or now, that can attract a woman more than a class-A actor of his age, experience and overall desirable quality. It's just good to know that there are decent men out there, married or not, who are just darned good people and reinforce our faith in the human race. Oh yeah, and good-looking at that :newlaugh: !!!

Being the blatant and straight-to-the-point type, the first thing I posted a few days ago when I joined this list was my fond memories of watching CL at 2AM. Did anyone else actually fall asleep during the commercials, and then wake up when they heard his voice when the movie came back on, figuring you could get the full effect later on when you watched the tape-but you just HAD to be awake to see what he was doing, even if you were comatose.
Are you reading this, Mr. Lee? What an ego boost it must be if you are! :1devil:
Well, darn it, I'm not ashamed to admit it. The man's adorable, then and now, so it's not our faults nature was good to him! TOp it off with impeccable morals and politeness and you have an amazing package. I agree, it certainly does reinforce your confidence in the idea that there are good men out there!

Yes, I fell asleep during late night showings of Christopher Lee films! I could not stand to miss them! When his movies came out on VHS, I was absolutely thrilled! I remember two specific times when I was trying to stay awake and fell asleep. I didn't wake up until the last five minutes of the films! I was sooo......upset!

Yep, I also fell asleep watching those 1 am and 2 am showings of his movies. I was always so excited to see him and I tried desperately to stay awake but very often could not.
He was worth it though. That golden voice would always wake me up!

Did you all ever see Christopher Lee on a two part episode of CHARLIE'S ANGEL'S? I was so thrilled when I heard he was going to be on it when it aired in the late 70s or early 80s. At the time, it was one of the few "recent" things I had found. I was a kid and did not have access to all of his work!

Yes, I remember him on that epidsode of Charlie's Angels (a show I rarely watched!) I did manage to be glued to the t.v. for those episodes, however.
One of my favorite, more recent appearances of CL , however had to be his appearance in "Serial." I remember seeing it in a movie theater (before I had a VCR -- not everyone had one in the 1980s!) CL was really hysterical and still in great shape at that age. I distinctly remember not only his fantastic American accent, but the classic line "We're not pansies, we're tough dudes." When CL first came on screen, there was a man in the front row of the theater and when he saw him he yelled out "HA! Wow! Do you know who that is?!" It was great. Only Mr. Lee could make me swoon playing a gay biker!

Well, I er, uh... I still wouldn't kick him out of my bed for eating crackers, if you know what I mean.
I didn't stay up 'til ungodly hours watching films with him (my parents were the larks from hell and I followed their sleeping habits until college) but I sure did enjoy poring over various books on horror films and looking at him. And I think I first picked up the copy of Horror of Dracula I still have back in high school.
