I know in the first book Gandalf notices that Saruman has changed to many colours instead of white. I was curious to know why they didn't incorporate that aspect of Saruman into the 1st film...? Don't get me wrong, Saruman is and was always my favorite character, but they left Lee hanging a bit as far as screen time is concerned.

Actually, his role was expanded slightly in that, in the books, the scene detailing Saruman's treason was originally told in flashback via Gandalf's pov. Saruman only appeared two other times in the books: Once in TTT, and once in tRotK. I think his role was expanded to give the viewers a villian-other than a "Lidless Eye"-to focus on. Yeah that is my point exactly. I was hoping that Gandalf (at the meeting of Elrond) would have expounded on the betrayal of Saruman. Thus, a "flashback" showing Gandalf seeing the colours of his robes after already being locked in the tower.
