According to Chris Gullo's Peter Cushing Association website , Warners is at the planning stage for Region 1 DVD releases of both Hammer classics - The Horror of Dracula and The Curse of Frankenstein. Need I remind anyone that our own Mr. Lee featured prominently in both films? Nah...didn't think so.

About time that these two films, of all of Hammer's prodigious output, hit the DVD format. Hopefully Warners will do a better job of it than they did with their recent bare-bones and over-matted release of The Mummy.

Cheers!

That is fantastic news Charles!!!
Those two films were my first introduction to both mr. Lee and Hammer films, and i think HOD may be the best film Hammer ever did in my opinion, and we all know what it did for mr. Lee's name with it's huge succes!!.

Terence Fisher, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing , you really can't go wrong here!!!!

Thanks for the news, now this is going to be a long wait!

take care

You think you have a long wait Sylvain, what about us poor region 2 people. Ah well best things come to those who wait.

Charles, I wish I new Mr. lee was in these 2 films, I would have got them years ago on VHS, it would have made my collection complete, I wondered why my entire film collection was 2 shorter than the official filmography. :D

Now, who was it that played both Holmes and Mycroft ? The face is very familiar.:D :D :1devil:

Seriously, I prefer Curse of Frankenstein over Dracula, so If I get any it will be this one.

Cheers

Be nice to get both, I've most the Hammer films on VHS, got something to hint about for a anniveristy present or birthday present now. Can't remember but it was either Horror Of Dracula or the Creeping Hand which was my first horror movie to see, was about 10 at the time and my sister would wake me up to watch them with her as she was afraid to watch alone.

i knew those two would appear sooner or later. When the Mummy came out i was suprised at the selection. Surely Dracula and Frankenstien were bigger movies. The only thing i could think of was that it was to capitalize on the Universal film the Mummy returns . Great, Great news. Im sure if we asked the Chris Lee fans these two would be on everyones wish list for DVD release

I'm happy as a clam(box). Bring me the whole package with tons of bells n' whistles. Commentary, interviews, trailers. . . .I can hardly wait! Got to get home and dust out the space on my shelf that has been waiting for just such an announcement.

There are so many motion pictures and DVD releases this year, it seems like 2002 is becoming a whole "year of the vampire film" like it was in the old days.

These 2 movies on DVD will be a welcome addition to my collection. I just picked up The Mummy and Horror Hotel.

One thing I hope they do is to expand the case and maybe a small booklet instead of the bare minimun like on The Mummy version. I realize these movies were made some time ago, but they are still entertain me none the less. Once again, that gothic look hooks me every time, then throw in a couple of my favorite actors, Mr. Cushing and Mr. Lee... know what I mean, nudge, nudge, say no more.

I hope Jinnah comes out on DVD in the near future. With all that is going on in the world right now, it might be rather enlightening.

A more apt choice I couldn't really imagine! As thrilling as it is to find that HoD and CoF are on the cards for DVD release, Jinnah is still at the top of my wishlist for the format. I don't imagine that there is any single film that better showcases Mr. Lee's talents. Besides, as MikeS put it...it might be rather enlightening...and we could all use a bit of enlightening, even at the best of times.

Cheers!

Hi Charles,

I have to admit, I am a huge fan of the Dracula/Horror films Mr. Lee made while with Hammer Films, this was my first introduction to the movies Mr. Lee has made, the drive-in theaters of the 60s and Saturday Night fright films.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen Jinnah on the big screen, something some of the CL Fanclub members were lucky enough to do. I did hear him describe the making of the film while he was in Chicago a few years ago. I remember at the time, it seemed like a very different role for him to play, the leader of the Pakistan people. And not just a supporting role, the lead. As much as I enjoyed Sleepy Hollow, filmed at Bray Studios and all, Mr. Lee was only in it for a cup of coffee. I did enjoy the wing/shadow shapes behind him though.

Sorry for the digression, bring on HoD, CoF, Jinnah, throw in Safari 3000...

So let me get this right, the order of the Dracula films goes like this; Satanic Rites of Dracula came out first, then Scars, Dracula, Prince of Darkness... what the heck were they thinking not releasing HoD first?

Thank you, Mike, for mentioning "Safari 3000." That movie cracks me up. Anybody up for a chorus of "Baboons on the Road?" :1roll:

My fave line from that movie? "Angle. . . .of. . . .debris."

As to why nobody brought out HoD out on DVD sooner, I guess they just like to torment us. Whoever comes up with these distribution dates probably slaps a few titles up on a wall and picks the next batch with a few well-thrown darts. . . .
