There was a TV special on Fox last Thursday night on the making of Lord of the rings.
It was highly interesting, and i was glued to my TV screen the whole half an hour.
There were interviews with members of the cast, including mr. Lee, and of course with the director, Peter Jackson.
They showed a couple of shots of Mr. Lee in character (Saruman) on the set, and even in such a short clip, i could feel that "presence" and magnetism that emanates from CL whenever he appears on screen.
We also saw some of the amazing landscapes where the film was shot in New-Zealand, and this has got to be the most beautiful country in the world, really amazing scenery!
The program featured also a complete scene from the film that gave us a sneak preview of what we may expect , and let me tell you the tension in the scene was intense, almost unbearable.

I am pretty sure that the film will be the biggest thing to hit the theatres all around the world in quite a long time, and that it will make history!!

Can't wait, can't wait!!!!!!
take care all!

Sylvain,
I managed to catch the special (Quest for the Ring) as well, and couldn't agree more about how spectacular LOTR looks! Unfortunately I wasn't aware of it in time to post anything on the site regarding it's airing, (there was very little advance publicity) so my apologies to those that missed it. Mr. Lee made a few comments regarding the roles of Gandalf and Saruman within the Middle-Earth hierarchy, that put their relative status, particularly within their magical order, in perspective:

"Saruman is number one, Gandalf is number two."

There was also a brief behind-the-scenes sequence showing Mr. Lee's stunt double being yanked backwards through a doorway. Pretty cool stuff!

Cheers!

It was a lucky shot for me too, i managed to see the advertising for the program 20 minutes just before it started, talk about good timing!

[Jill sobs inconsolably, having missed it because she only gets PAX and NBC in Tuscaloosa].

What is worse is that my fiance got to watch it, and he hasn't read LoTR! ARGH!:furious: And he was on my instant messenger, telling me, oh, this looks like a really good movie!! Double and Triple Argh!

I caught the show and taped it, it was very cool. I can't wait for this movie to hit the big screen. Not only is this an amazing film project, 3 films at once, but the characters and the scenery are almost like I pictured it. Not that my idea of what it would look like is better, just any time you read a book and see it in film, it always seems different. This one looks dead on!

"The ring gleamed and flicker as he held it in his trembling hand."

The TV special was quite good but I didn't see much advertising for it either. Those annoying fast food commercials are on more than the trailers.
The media magazine Outre (it is printed in the US) has a brief one page article/mini-interview with Mr. Lee. The cover has Ian McKellen.

Looks like the special that aired on Fox the other week is due to be broadcast on CBC in Canada as well. Another chance for Canadian members that may have missed it on Fox.

The CBC website indicates that Quest for the Ring is scheduled to air on Monday, Dec. 10, at 7:30pm ET .

Cheers!

This special was on Dutch tv tonight last night.
Had my vcr ready and taped every minute of it. :)

Very nice making off, although a bit short.
It would have been nice to have heard some more backgrounds
on the special FX or hear comments from the actors.
I'm sure the making off on the dvd will make up for it.

This special has been released on dvd in Belgium.
If you bought a dvd from some store in Belgium you could get this
promo dvd with this special.
This was mentioned on a Dutch/Belgium dvd forum.

The company who released this dvd has a website: http://www.cineart.be/

If you mail them, you could get the dvd for free.
Downside is, that it is only for people who live in Belgium.
I mailed them, but their reply was that they were not allowed to
send it over the Belgium borders to another country.

If someone from Belgium reads this, please ask for 2 copies if you don't have this dvd yet.
You can send the the 2nd copy to me. :D

hi guys:

Tonight we watched a new TV special, National Geographic's BEYOND THE MOVIE: THE LORD OF THE RINGS

It was SUPERB! Here's a link to the info:

http://www.nationalgeographic.com/ngbeyond/

It had to do with how real events in Tolkien's life (his early life in a small rural community, WW1 and 2, England's increased industrialization, his fascination with languages--particularly Finnish, etc.) directly influenced LOTR. Really excellent info.

SOME MAJOR ADDED BONUSES: CL appears in this special commenting on the subject, scenes from the film are interwoven, AND Greg noticed that there were some film scenes which we could not recall from FELLOWSHIP, so we THINK these are from the second and maybe third part of the trilogy! A mini sneak preview!

Mr Lee ends the special by wondering: while there are indeed those who desire only good for the world...where is TODAY'S ringbearer?

I got chills!

I don't know when it will be on again, but it should be. So keep an eye on your TV and be sure not to miss it!
