Hi Stimpy22
I saw the 'Whales of August' a few years ago......even though the film was farely boring and Vincent Price had a small part in it, overall I quite enjoyed it. It started off at the turn of the century with a family visiting a seaside house for the summer, this bit only lasted for about 5 mins...it then moved on to when the characters are in their late 70s, remembering years gone by...also starred Bette Davis and Lillian Gish. Its a film on my DVD wants list.....and would enjoy having it as part of my collection!
H.John

A wonderful film, that alas is presently out of print. I do hope someone like VCI or ANCHOR BAY pick up the rights for this film, along with a wonderful film called STEALING HEAVEN(Virgin)about Abelard and Heloise and A CHORUS OF DISAPPROVAL(Southgate) starring Jeremy Irons and A Hopkins about a small town theatre group.
Little movies like this and WHALES are hardly made any more, and video wears out, so a company restoring them to DVD .
WHALES is a slow film, but definitely sets the pace of the period, and Price is magnificent in the film as a former Russian count now reduced to living on the kindness of strangers..
Davis, Price, Gish-- all gone, and all missed...
shame that Price had to do DEAD HEAT .....WHALES was a better epitath to his skill as an actor...

does anyone happen to know what vincet price's last starring role in a movie was? actors when they they are getting old seem to get smaller parts example is the great Christopher Lee. he hasn't had a starring role in 3yrs Jinnah i believe was his last. but thank god his popularity is still out here. anyways I always wondered what vincent price's last starring role as an actor was.

Price, who passed away in October of 1993 ,wa last heard in the long in the making and long delayed animated feature ARABIAN NIGHTS (1995). Too bad Miramax decided to tamper with the film, as it is now a flawed classic ....
His last theatrical wherein he was seen was EDWARD SCISSORHANDS (1991) and in the Turner tv movie THE HEART OF JUSTICE(93)...

I didnt think you were rude at all! It's a good question, and I am sorry I misunderstood...
That would probably be the awful DEAD HEAT(1988) where he is among the main credits.
THE OFFSPRING(1987) was the last time he was top billed..
still, to me, THE WHALES OF AUGUST was his last true acting gig..

thanx on that I Have always wanted to know that.
there are still a handful of films of Vincent Price I have always wanted to see and Whales of August is one of them. in his Autobiograpy in which his daughter wrote she said he was very proud of that role an it was nice to do a drama instead of a horror movie or play a villian it also added that it was his first drama since the 1950's. and that his years in the theatre he finally got to use his acting ability well he got to dust it off as they say having been unable to use his drama side for at least 30yrs as I said before.

One of my proudest theatrical moments was getting to see Mr Price become OSCAR WILDE in DIVERSIONS AND DELIGHTS..Which audiences loved, but the NY critics unfairly hated...

I met Mr Price several times-
always very generous with his time and to his fans==when I first met him when Iwas younger, I remember gushing, saying,
MR PRICE IM PROBABLY YOUR BIGGEST FAN!
He smiled at this kid, & said: THAT'S NICE! IM PROBABLY YOURS TOO!
Made me feel great. I am sorry that no tape reord exists of his stage performance.
His musical performance DARLING OF THE DAY has recently just come out on CD...
Mr Lee was great friends with Cushing and Price-all so erudite and witty, one almost wishes one could have been a fly on the wall .....
...I never collect for the value of an item, except for it's personal
value-- on my wall are autographs from Lee, Cushing, Price, and the wonderful Rober Quarry ... I wouldn't consider selling them...
so hold onto that video-- it's a record of a great actor in performance...

then in NY when he did DIVERSIONS.....
At some point ,
I wrote to him, and he sent back a hand written note, with a signed photo. i was stunned ... "Dear Kevin, Thanks for a great letter..."
one of the joys of living in the NY area-
Im an oldie, now 44 1/2 years ....

Neely still hit the high notes as Jesus?
As Chris Lee said: "And now- meet-Loaf ....sorry - MEAT LOAF..."
