Hello out there. Thought that the following might be of interest.
I just returned from a LOTR promotional event at a local bookstore. They had giveaways but, best of all, showed us a 20 minute video with cast interviews, behind-the-scenes footage and brief shots from the film. While they did not interview Mr. Lee he was in a few shots. It was really quite interesting although at heart just really a big commercial from Houghton-Mifflin to get people interested in two new books (a movie companion and visual guide). The two books are really quite nice and just hit stores on Tuesday. Both have quotes and some biographical information on the cast, Mr. Lee included.
Interviews from the video included: Peter Jackson, Ian McKellen, two Tolkien illustrators (including Alan Lee) and several other actors such as Cate Blanchett and Elijah Wood. There was a surprising amount of information about LOTR as literature, more than most non-literary people would appreciate. All of it was fascinating.
Also maybe of note to you, three new double-sided promo posters were given away. (And, no, I didn't win one.) One of these had Mr. Lee on one side and McKellen on the other. These will be on display at quite a few stores from what I gathered. There are also new mass market paperbacks out with movie covers and boxed sets. (All three movie editions of Two Towers have Mr. Lee on the cover.)
Here, in the States, Fox network will air a special on the film on Nov. 29. I have no idea if it will be the similar to what I saw tonight.
