I have always enjoyed Hammer films when I was growing up. Granted, Mr. Lee and Mr. Cushing were a big part of the reason why I had paid any attention to Hammer films in the first place.
But as I got older I did appreciate the talent that the Hammer Film Company possessed. The directors, writers, as well as the film quality.
I would like to see other movies that Hammer Film has made.
I was wondering in anyone could tell me what other movies they enjoyed so that I may look into them.
Wish you enough,
Old Soul

I didnt get into truely watching Hammer Films until they were on video tape.I started collecting them.Curse of Frankenstein was the first tape I bought. I remember seeing Hammer films and classic Horror and Giant Monsters on Creature Double Feature every Saturday afternoons. some of the movies they showed scared the heck out of me. but I watched every week.they showed lots of good movies. Also rented the classics when i was a little older then that.I was always into all monsters when I was little. I loved the classic monster lunchbox I got for school. And the Frankenstein monster action figure my parents bought me instead of the spung bath toy thing that they wanted me to get. No wonder I had alot of bad dreams. my last year going out on halloween I was Frankensteins monster. used cotton balls and corn starch to build up the fore head and make it flat. the painted over it. It looked good.

I would recommend these Hammer productions (some of which you've no doubt already seen!).
(In no particular order) TWINS OF EVIL (1971), REVENGE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1958), THE REPTILE (1966), PLAGUE OF THE ZOMBIES (1966), RASPUTIN THE MAD MONK (1966), QUATERMASS AND THE PIT (AKA: FIVE MILLION YEARS TO EARTH) (1968), THE MUMMY (1959), DRACULA (AKA: HORROR OF DRACULA) (1958), BRIDES OF DRACULA (1960), CAPTAIN CLEGG (AKA: NIGHT CREATURES) (1962), CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1957), CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF (1961), THE DEVIL RIDES OUT (AKA: THE DEVIL'S BRIDE) (1968), DR JEKYLL AND SISTER HYDE (1971), DRACULA, PRINCE OF DARKNESS (1965), THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES (1959), KISS OF THE VAMPIRE (AKA: KISS OF EVIL) (1963), CAPTAIN KRONOS VAMPIRE HUNTER (AKA: KRONOS) (1973), THE MAN WHO COULD CHEAT DEATH (1959).

I think I would add SHE (1965) and Taste the Blood of Dracula--in spite of the corny title, it actually posts one of the best production designs and larger casts of all the Hammer productions...
Best,
John F

Some thought went into that production. Wouldn't mind having that one on DVD, but who knows when and if that'll happen. . . .

Brian....memory lane for me reading about Creature Double Feature ....Remeber it was channel 56 and started at one and went to 4. We were in different towns but both probally watching the same movies ..Wow Thats cool This site attracts all people from all around the world but Creature Double Feature was a great part of my sat afternoons growing up around Boston..thanks for that memory boost.. I feel 12 again..and that is when i started going from being a Monster movie fan to a Christopher Lee fan..Anyway ,Old Soul ..one of my favs by hammer is Vampire Circus. A really good vampire movie. Its not on video or dvd but some internet companies sell dupes thats what I have but its still a great film. Amicus made some good ones as well kind of a poor mans Hammer... I keep hearing good things about Straight till Morning but havent seen it yet. I believ it comes out next year.Devil Rides OUt is excellant both the movie and Christopher Lees performance. Out on Video right now is I feel his best performance ..Rasputin the Mas Monk..Its not a horror movie but I got it just because its Chris Lee and Hammer. Wow what a performance.!! Also out next year is the Devil a Daughter..I believe the last hammer film made.. I liked it but the masses dont have high opinions of it. See it for Christopher Lees performance alone. That comes out next year. Happy viewing!!

Other than Mr Lee's wonderful Dracula films and just about anything with Peter Cushing in it, the best Hammer film ever made is Plague of the Zombies, no question.

i consider myself to have seen so many of his movies and then i look at the list and its amazing . The guy doesnt stop he keeps going . In the book he says as an actor, he hates to have nothing to do. The rate hes going it will take us along time to see them all ....i woudlnt even think im at a half way point and ive seen quite a few. I hope he keeps going for a long long time thats probally why he hates talking about movies and roles he did over 30 to 40 years ago..I dont blame him at all..but if I met him ,which is a goal ,it would be hard not to mention how great those performances were even though to him they were so long ago and in the past

I don't believe any list of Hammer's best is complete without THE NANNY or THE QUATERMASS XPERIMENT (we saw it under the unfortunate title THE CREEPING UNKNOWN).
And I'll apologize ahead of time for one of my own personal favorites THE SATANIC RITES OF DRACULA. (Yes, I know Mr. Lee refused to ever play Dracula again afterwards. Yes, I even saw it under the stupid title COUNT DRACULA AND HIS VAMPIRE BRIDE) But I thought Christopher Lee (despite his objections), Peter Cushing and Freddie Jones were wonderful in this movie. When Dracula throws closed the doors, blocking Van Helsing's escape from a burning room and screams at him, "My revenge has lasted for centuries and will go on forever," I still get a chill.
